Need help with getting a SAS attached tape drive to a Windows Server (2019)

I have this Quantum LTO 9 HH rack mounted tape drive connected to an ATTO 12GB SAS HBA on a windows 2019 server. I see the ATTO card in device manager but I do not see the tape drive there. I dont see any lights on the ATTO card or on the SAS port on the tape drive.  Wondering if anyone could help me to get the tape drive seen by the system. Once I install Veeam (tomorrow) will Veeam install a driver for the tape drive or is there another issue here? Thanks!

Sounds like a hardware issue.  If you cannot see the tape drives or library in Device Manager there is an OS level problem you need to fix first before Veeam can even use the tape drive(s).

@DaveSD

I would check the compatibility with your Server, PCIe slot, SAS Card, cable, Windows drivers etc. I think Quantum LTO 9 HH and ATTO 12GB SAS HBA work together, but is good to check.

I know sounds wierd, but I normaly use LT&T software form HPE to test tape, robot, libraries from any manufacture, try to troubleshooting using LT&T never failed during my tests.

Additionally, disconnect the server from the power source for about 30 seconds; it's helped me a few times.

Is it a new equipment?

This sounds either like a Windows driver issue (please make sure to download & install the most recent one specifically for your OS version) or a hardware issue.

Are the cables intact? Did you use the right cables? Some SAS cards may have the issue that you have to start using the ports from 1 to 4, so you e.g. cannot put a single cable into slot 4 when the ports “before” (1-3) are empty.

Maybe it’s a good idea to reach out to your hardware vendor and open a ticket there as well. As long as the OS sees the tape drive, Veeam should be able to use it.

Thanks to all. The card, cable and tape drive are brand new. I am trying to get in touch with Quantum support but it is not easy.
