Title of err window “Veeam Setup Engine”

Content of err window “An error has occured: Это действие допускается только для установленных продуктов“ and translated by me as “This action allowed only for installed products”

Did you check the installation logs to see if there is any more details?  They are here - C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Setup

Also check the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to ensure there is nothing old there that can be removed.  You can also remove the Veeam folder under HKLM\Software as well as if there HKCU\Software.

Try again but if still a problem you may need to contact Support for assistance.  Also ensure that your OS is supported by the requirements and if you can install Veeam on a new server to test also try that.

@serjio -

At the very least if what Chris suggested doesn’t work, if nothing else is on the server, you could reinstall the OS the attempt the install.

Look for Veeam entries in below locations and remove them if they exist

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam

You can query the names and GUIDs of installed products by running the following command in the PowerShell

wmic product get name,identifyingnumber

A similar issue was discussed in another thread here: https://community.veeam.com/discussion-boards-66/cannot-install-vbr-12-1-7644. The fix involved uncompressing the files from C:\ProgramData\Veeam

At this point you need to redo the OS or contact Support to open a ticket.  This is the community and we try to help as best we can but we are NOT technical support.

@serjio, just a comment from my side (former Veeam Support), if you’re getting:

“Это действие допускается только для установленных продуктов.”

Not good, basically it means either the registry is a bit goofed or there is an uninstallercache issue or something similar.

Fresh install of the OS is best bet, and recover from the Configuration Backup. Fixing this is a real pain if even possible, and you’ll probably go down quite a few rabbit holes without finding success, only bunny-poops.

So your instinct is correct, reinstall the OS. It’s rarely worth it to try to fix such Windows issues, and even more rarely successfully done.

(BTW, if you are using registry cleaning tools, e.g., CCleaner, these are usually the culprit. Such tools make a lot of assumption about what is no longer required by applications and from experience, they basically wreck servers with a very pretty UI)

My own mistake, i did anything worng during a “Update Path” 9.5 → 10a → 11 etc. I removed Veeam, did some of the advices with registry etc.  but no chance to start any setup from any Version (9.5/10/11/12) The log in Programdata only shows: [UI Message] Interaction result: ok

Im planing a new Host OS Installation, or any further Ideas ?

It depends what is your goal. If you start a fresh installation you cannot use previous backup chain. If I remember correctly is not possibile to import 9.5 backup configuration in v12.

For this error, go with reformat. This means installation files/installer cache/registry is borked. Manual removal from registry is NEVER recommended, and regrettably the only clean way to recover this is a fresh installation.

Never use any “cleaning” apps (e.g., CCleaner but there are many others) on production servers. Given how these tools work, I would never use them even for personal machines, but most definitely you will create headaches down the line if you use such tools on production servers. These tools are largely snake-oil and make a lot of pretty risky guesses about what is safe to clean/remove and puts the impetus on others to fix the mistakes made by such cleaning tools.

Just don’t use them, there are better and smarter ways to maintain your machines, cleaning tools are very much so a relic of the past and it’s questionable how useful they were even then.

With this fresh installation it should still be possible to configure the original repository location, import the old backup files, create new backup jobs and map those to the imported backup files. This should allow you to continue with the original backup chain.

You’re right @Tommy O'Shea yesterday I sent my reply from my smartphone and I was brief. It’s possible to import backup config file but there are no specs about starting version. If it’s a minor version of 9.5U4b is not possible to import backup config file.

Upgrading from 9.5U4b to 12.x in one go is certainly not possible. I don’t remember if it’s possible to import 9.5U4b config file into 12.x. I made a fresh installation with import in v11. Never in v12.

I think the confusion is importing the configuration database backup versus importing previous backups.

Veeam versions are always backwards compatible with backups created in previous versions. If there are issues, Veeam will review why the backups cannot be imported/restored from.

The Configuration Database Backup is what has limitations for what can be restored. Check the restore section to see the earliest configuration database backup that can be used for restore for the current version of Veeam.

You can import backups made with an older version of Veeam into the current version always. The Database Configuration Backup on the other hand will be limited.
