I currently have a Quantum Scalar i3 tape library with 4 drives. I need to add 2 more drives to the library in Veeam. We bought a new SAS card, and have not yet installed it into the tape server. When I do, and connect the 2 new drives to it, I am unclear as to what I will need to do in Veeam to get it to recognize that there are now 2 more drives in the library, so I can add them to the correct media pool. Will it automatically see them?

Veeam should do a routine scan of the tape unit and recognize that there are 2 more drives that have been added.  You can also run a manual scan if needed.

I know this is the Hyper-V guide but applies generally - Rescanning Tape Devices - User Guide for Microsoft Hyper-V

After adding the drives to the tape library, you’ll want to check the device manager of the server that the library is connected to and make sure that the new drives are showing up properly. If not, consult with the tape library support to ensure it shows up.

After it shows up in device manager, you can rescan the tape server. This process happens every 3 minutes though, so it’s not strictly necessary.

When that is complete, the drives should show up under that library and be available for use.
