It’s possible to backup only VMs, Cloud SQL and Cloud Spanner as described here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbgc/guide/welcome.html?ver=50

+4I’ve noticed that there’s no option for application-aware processing in my current setup. After confirming with a Veeam high-level technical expert, I was informed that to enable application-aware backups for database-level protection, I need to configure an agent-based backup job.

Yes, right now the application aware is not available via Veeam Backup for GCP. You must use Veeam Agent if you need that.
