failed to start service "VeeamEndpointBackupSvc"

Hi
i have a PC that was being backed up wit veeam agent for windows free edition not managed by VBR

The PC is runing windows 10 22H2 ,

After an agent update started getting the error failed to start service "VeeamEndpointBackupSvc"

Tried repairing the agent , i tried removing it and reinstalling it still getting the same error .

It seems something with the agent setting is wrong and removing the agent doesn't really clean all the data from the PC , tried even installing older version still the same.

Also i am not seeing that service registered in services

Any ideas how to purge the data ?  Or Fix this issue ?

Thanks

Well this is the point i am giving up

1- have disabled antivirus

2-have performed purge from registry and all linked files

3- install from command line doesnt accept any options

4- tried over 10 different installs today and still the same result

5- tried opening a case with my VMCE account and my work account i get that i am not registered lol

Time to try something else

Thanks everyone for your help , even though i did not get the result i wanted

Hi @intruderxxx -

Only thing I can think of to try is completely uninstall/reinstall VAW from Programs/Features. Check for folder removal as well in Program Files, Program Files (x86), and ProgramData as well as in the Registry. Reinstall VAW and see if you can get working again.

Best.

I would agree with Shane to remove everything and reinstall.  Also which version of the agent are you using and did you check the system requirements?

There isn’t one by Veeam. You can search for some like below:

https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-program-uninstaller.html

There was a tool I used several yrs ago but I forgot what it was. If I recall the name, I’ll share it.

Not an official one from Veeam that I am aware of.  You could try Revo Uninstaller as that is what I use and it cleans files plus registry too.

Well that did not help :(

I have performed unistall,

Deleted files from c:\Program Files

Deleted files from %programdata%

performed search for files in local and roaming profile none found

performed deletion of all veeam settings in registry

performed restart

reinstalled and still the same issue

according to log the service was registered but i dont see it in the service list

Very weird :/

So, it appears this service didn’t install and is needed. In VBR, there is a directory where all individual services and app instrallers are located. My guess is the same is true for the Windows Agent. Unpack the ISO and look in the folders for this service installer and attempt to install it. Other option is to open a Support case. Even with the Free edition you can open a case via the Console:

its stand alone no VBR , no iso to unpack i just an EXE file

I dont have a working client to open a case, it doesn't skip and it doesnt cleanup after failed install when  i cancel even though its supposed to .

this seems to be an issue with sql lite database that veeam is using and not cleaning it.

it just tries to use the previous info and not performing clean install

The second one should work.  The first is much older and may not support the version of Windows.

6.3 supports up to  windows 10 22H2.

Have you tried installing it via command line with verbose logging enabled?

Is there any AV that could be causing the issue?

Which version of the agent are you using? I agree with both Shane and Chris to perform a clean re-install (with a reboot in between and afterwards) but maybe there is an update of the software.

Are you trying to use a specific service account with the service by any chance? This might cause trouble in case that there is anything missing.
