I know the Veeam M365 licensing is on a per user basis , e.g. every customer user assigned an M365 license = 1 Veeam Backup for M365 license. But for those customers on per device licensing (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365-apps/licensing-activation/device-based-licensing) , how is this handled? Can’t find anything relevant.

Device licensing is available for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise. And if I get it right this only includes the M365 client software (Word, Excel,...) but no M365 services like Exchange online. So there's nothing to backup via VB365.
