Hey folks,

I would like to know if any of you externalize backups sent to S3 storage onto tape?

Hi @Stabz,

Since S3 is object storage and tape is using block data there is - as far as I know - no way to copy native object data to tape.

When you can do within Veeam is to work with copy jobs. You can use store your primary backups to any repo and work with tape jobs and copy jobs to object storage, I see no issue there.

Best

Lukas

@lukas.k  thanks for your answers.

It seems possible to perform this action with a Unstructured Data Backup to Tape job, but it appears to be more of a backup of data that is hosted on S3 for a particular use and not as a repository.

Moreover, this is subject to licensing like NAS backup…

That’s one way, good to now. But you have to pay attention to your licensing.

What exactly is your goal? To offload VM backups or NAS backups?

Yes the licencing is a problem !

My need:
VMs Prod => Backup Job To Onpremise S3 storage => Backup To Tape

I don't see why this wouldn't be possible.

According to the help center; The backups that can be archived to tapes also include those created with backup jobs that directly write backup data to object storage repositories

No additional licensing would be required.

We use a product here where I am testing the SOSAPI with it for archiving and it does S3 to tape.  Works well now with SOSAPI versus standard S3.  This way it knows about archive piece.

You are right !
I asked on parallel in the forum and @Mildur confirmed to me it work !

It was a misunderstanding on my part - while going through the documentation I had a doubt.
