Hi all,

We are looking to create some CDP backups for our core systems which have ever-changing data blocks (mostly SQL DBs) but want to understand the impact by using such method.

The VM running the DB is just under 10TB and holds data that is ever changing, I don’t want to kick off the initial CDP backup in hours just in case there is any impact on production of the application or DB.

Is anymore aware of the impact and if it’s even noticeable? I think I read somewhere CDP are very small and have barely any impact but I can’t find it anywhere now :).

Cheers,

lgh

Hi @lgh -

I personally don’t use CDP, but am very active here on the Hub and haven’t heard/seen anyone have “impact” on Prod systems using CDP. Maybe other can chime in with their take.

You could also ping Veeam Product Managers on the Forums to inquire what they see/hear from customers who use CDP.

Best.

CDP doesn’t create traditional snapshot, so there is no noticeable impact on the VMs.

We have been replicating SQL DB servers with 15 to 17TB in size with a 15-minute RPO, and there has been no impact on production.

CDP performance depends on the network speed and datastore IOPS performance in your environment.

I have tested CDP with multiple systems including DBs and there is typically no impact if everything in your environment is tuned well. Be sure to size your CDP proxies correct also - https://bp.veeam.com/vbr/Support/configurations/cdp_proxy.html
