I’m attempting to backup an entire Ubuntu 24.04 computer with the Veeam Agent for Linux. The destination is an external USB drive. I can do this with a Windows 11 computer and the Veeam Agent for Windows with no problem.
However, when I try to do the same thing with the Veeam Agent for Linux, I’m given an error message that the destination path is included in the backup. As far as I can remember this used to work.
Why does this work now only in Windows but not Linux?

Welcome to the Community. I assume you’re getting that error when selecting the Destination volume to place your backup? Please provide more details there, including exact wording of error received.
I’ve never tried to backup a whole Linux machine to a USB. According to the System Requirements, USB is a supported target for backups:

But, a lil bit of conflicting information….when doing whole/entire computer backup, Veeam recommends not using USB. Their main reason is if you use FAT32 for the USB, which only has a 4GB size limit:

if you format the USB as something else (NTFS or exFAT), it should be fine. Please share more info and we’ll try to assist.

The error message is “Warning: The destination path is a directory that is selected for backup by “/”. Please either choose a non-local destination or exclude “/media . . . “
I’ve had this working correctly on an Ubuntu 22.04 computer for the past 9 years. I also have it working on several Windows computers.
The USB drive is formatted for NTFS.
+21Could you go through the ‘create backup’ process without the USB plugged in and select Entire Computer, then plug the USB back in afterwards and choose it as a target at that config screen? May not have needed to do that before..but may have to now. I assume you’re using the same VAL version as with the previous Ubuntu OS? Is it the latest VAL version? (v6.3 should be latest)
