We would like to clarify a few points about offloading backups to Azure Storage.

1. Does the Veeam application support Azure Entra ID for offloading backups to Azure Storage?
2. Can Azure Entra ID be used as an alternative to Shared Key access for connecting to Azure Blob Storage?
3. Are there any limitations or challenges associated with integrating Azure Entra ID? If so, is there a roadmap for addressing these in future Veeam releases?

I am unsure about questions 2/3 but for 1 offloading would only be possible if you back up the Postgres database server that stores the EntraID backups.  It is not stored on block storage like standard backups.

Thanks Chris for the  answer.

  1. Can we use azure entra id for configuring and connecting to azure storage account using veeam console instead of shared key one ?
  2. Is integrating Azure Entra ID or shared access key is best ?

Please let me know if you still need more onformation.

Support for <Microsoft Azure Entra ID authentication> for connecting to Azure storage accounts is available since Veeam Backup & Replication v12.1.

Azure Entra ID authentication is recommended by Microsoft. Therefore I would use that option.

Best,

Fabian
