Question

AIX move to a new protection group

Hi. We followed the Veeam documentation to install the IBM AIX agent in "pre-installed agent" mode, but we later realized it could also work within an "individual computer" protection group. We believe the latter approach is better because the pre-installed agent method requires manually triggering synchronization on the AIX host or waiting up to six hours for it to occur. I found a Veeam article explaining how to migrate between protection group types, which I’ve included at the end of this message.

The agent—version 13—has just been installed; we used the XML file provided by the Veeam console, and the connection was successful. Since we prefer the "individual computer" method, and I believe moving it avoids the need to revert to standalone mode (allowing everything to be managed from the console), could you please confirm that this procedure works as expected? I’d like to proceed with this change.

Hi @chateichon7 - here, the Community can provide suggestions but not confirm official Veeam Support or operability. If you followed an official Veeam document to implement a solution in your environment, and it works, then you should be good to go. If you have further questions about the article you shared or if you plan on straying a bit from what is recommended in the article to fit your org’s needs, it’s really best you reach out to Veeam Support for verification of your design strategy.

Best.

Hi, thanks for the reply, though I don't quite understand it.

We agree that if it's in the official documentation, it *should* work; however, what I'm asking the community is whether anyone has actually done this and can share their experience—after all, that’s what a community is for: sharing experiences, right?

I’m not trying to get off track; I just want to know if anyone in the community has carried out this process and has any additional comments—like, for instance: "I ran into an issue caused by X, so I suggest you check Y first," etc. So, I don't quite follow your response; I’m not trying to stray from the topic—I’m trying to get feedback based on real-world experience. I believe official documentation and practical experience make a great combination.

Anyway, I’ll put it out there again: if anyone has managed to perform this procedure and has any comments, that would be excellent. Thanks a lot.

@chateichon7 - my comment was a simple response to your post. You never mentioned you wanted Community feedback (we don’t assume here for obvious reasons 😅). By all means...YES!...that is exactly what this site is for. And if that’s what you’re after, here’s hoping someone responds. If you were looking for “official” guidance, then Veeam Support is the way to go, & thus my initial comment.

Hope you get some good feedback…

Best.
