Hello,

When using VDC Calcultor for Azure VM workloads, for a snapshot size of ~64.4 TB there is an associated snapshot cost (~$3,297) with a Bronze policy (1 per day for 7 days), I am missing clarity on how this cost is applied over time.

More specifically, could you please clarify:

1. Is this snapshot cost:
- calculated per month,
- per year,
- or is it a cumulative cost based on retention (number of snapshots × retention duration)?

2. Does the displayed cost already account for the 7‑day snapshot retention, or is it the cost of a single snapshot instance?

Thank you for your clarification

Hi @ssambourg:

  • The cost is an estimate of total monthly snapshot cost
  • Snapshots occur adjacent to the source data (within your tenant)
  • They are based on the policy selected (mouseover the tooltip or see the result detail inputs to see how many/how often)
  • They are based on the snapshot price per-GB you enter in the calculator (cost will vary by region or your Azure contract terms, so adjust accordingly)

Cheers!
