Calculators 1.2 released!

Hello calculator users, Today we have released version 1.2 of the Official Veeam Calculators ! Within this release we’ve added a FOUR new calculators to aid in sizing for: 👥 Entra ID (Just released in Veeam Data Platform 12.3 last week!) 🍃 MongoDB 🖥️ Veeam Backup Server 🔐 Veeam Data Cloud Vault (essentially streamlined version of the VM/Agent calc) Read more on these new calcs below. Restore Points vs Days?

I’m loving the extra features of the calculators, especially the VSE. My issue is that they all seem to be targeted towards “Days” for the daily jobs with no option for “Restore Points”. Equally important, especially for multiple jobs run within a day. Does anyone have a method to “hack” this at the moment? I did try this, but it seemed higher than expected: 2-Hourly job, held for 31 days: 12 (hourlies) X 31 (days) = 372 restore points. When I apply logic to that though, it’s really just saying “hold a daily restore point for 372 days”. Keen to see if there’s another way to calculate these types of scenarios, while using GFS.

Working Space Repository

HI Everyone, good friday! I few days ago, I saw the working space area available on the new calculator, it is great to have it! My question is regarding on how to use the working space, I’m asking that, because in the VMCA class v11 we use to get the biggest working space form the workloads that were used. the design template has a special raw to fill that information, here is an exerpt from the doc ”Veeam Backup & Replication v11: Architecture and Design” Now, the new doc. v12 the working space is not there anymore, so my question is, should I still using the largest work space or should I consider the sun all of them?

NAS Backup and growth in scenario builder

Hi all, Unlike the standalone, I noticed no growth options in the scenario builder for unstructured, and the growth isn’t factored into the result. Thanks, Ed

Similar functions like RPS Dewin

In rps.dewin.me we were able to configure weekly, monthly, yearly (NON-GFS) in the regular job, select when they run and get the chain length (don’t care about the size). This helped when providing insight in a visual way of what the chains would look like depending on their configuration. Right now, it’s default of weekly fulls and the option to use GFS. If a customer has a weekly full and then monthly full but not GFS, this doesn’t help in those situations. Is there a plan to add this like it was in rps.dewin?

Feedback for Future Releases of the Veeam Calculator

I’m very impressed with v1.3.9 of the Veeam Calculator, and I would like to provide some feedback to continue to see it improve. As an SE I often use the calculator to provide customers with sizing. I use the GoFullPage Chrome extension to export both results and inputs as PDF files for my customers to refer to. A native feature to export either as a PDF would be much appreciated. I export the inputs as a PDF in case I need to recreate a sizing scenario for a customer. If there was a way to download inputs as a simple text file (or XML, etc.), and then reload those inputs during a future site visit I could save that work with other documents. It would also allow me to share inputs easily with others, as well as to create some prepopulated inputs for common scenarios. Thanks again for all of the work on this incredibly useful resource! I hope that my feedback is helpful and inspires more great ideas from the team.

Veeam Calculator Sizing for proxy is extremely low

I have Two site, 340 Instance with total 340TB at Site A and 160 Instance with 160 TB at Site B, use CDP replication as well. after i imported the rvtool report and the report show only 2 cores needed for proxy and 4 core for VBR, this didn't make sense at all

Issues importing a saved vscn file. Workload counts are reset to default 70 per site.

Imported several RVTools files (4.71), after the load and save, able to import into SC with 1,837 workloads counted over my 10 sites. Exported to a vscn file to work on later, came back and imported the data back into a blank tool. After the import the workload counts were not updated for each site (had 10 sites), so the workload count was 700. The default in the blank was 70 workloads, appears that when i imported, either that field was not updated with my counts, or my workloads were not backed up into my vscn file export. Need some help to decipher this issue. I can supply my vscn file for review.

Azure object storage requirement

Hi! I have a customer with 35 TBs of source data in 90 Azure VMs - I added the screenshot with all of the inputs, however, the calculator says they need just 13.5 TBs in Azure Blob object storage, with 50% compression?

Overview of needed capacity

Hi David, all, just wanted to ask if we could maybe edit the overview of repository usage on the calculators page.Now when we make a calculation and we select to make use of the “capacity tier” we only show the required storage for the performance tier in the overview on the right of the screen. If you want to know what the usage is on the capacity tier then you have to click on details. to make it a bit more easy from a sizing perspective with an single overview and less clicks to perform, could we just also show the capacity/archive tier in that overview?

Teams Message Calculation

I have a partner who brought to my attention that the calculator doesn’t have any options to edit the source data or change rate for the Teams part of the M365 calculator. Is this intentional? They were looking to see if the calculator would give them any idea of how many API requests those Team messages would generate.

Sizing Veeam proxies

Hello! A great insight into sizing Veeam proxies is to use the guide below: https://bp.veeam.com/vbr/ Or the calculator for this purpose: Veeam Calculators However, it is important to understand the basic concepts behind the calculator. These are the assumptions for sizing with examples of a hypothetical environment: O = Total data source: 50 TB J = Backup window: 8 hours A = Daily change: 2% Where: O = Source J = Window A = Change T = Throughput Conversion formulas: Convert TB to KB = (TB * 1024 * 1024) Hours to seconds = (HRs * 3600) Throughput in Cores FULL = Throughput / 100 Right! So our converted environment is: O – 52428800 MB J – 28800 SEG A – 0.02 The calculation for processing the FULL backup would be: O - 52428800 MB / J - 28800 SEG = T - 1.820 ~ T - 1.820 / 100 = 18 ~ CORES That's it! Our proxy needs 18 CPUs. And the memory? We can consider 2 GB of RAM for each 1 CPU. So that would be 36 of RAM. Our proxy needs to have 18 CPUs and 36 RAM. For a more in-depth study, use: htt

Incremental Backups logic seems to be wrong

I think the calculation logic for Incremental Backups in Backup to Tape is incorrect.10% is calculated as 100%, and 5% is calculated as 50%. Could anyone please check the calculation logic again?

Cloud GFS restore points in the calculator?

Is it possible to add GFS restore points to the sizing for Azure, AWS and GCP? When I do a sizing for cloud workloads the only option is for daily restore points but I need to size for weekly and monthly as well. Thanks!

VM Replication Advanced options bug

Hi All I think i found a bug in the VM Replication option of the “Machines” Tab. The Advanced options are not working. For whatever number you put in the “Forcast period”, “Growth rate” and “Compress by” fields the results are always the same!

TiB's vs TBs in the calc

“They call me Mister TiB’s!” Hi all In the heat of the night, we had a new calculator release. This recent update (v1.1.0) to the calculators saw us change labeling from TiB’s (Tebibytes) to TB’s (Terabytes). This would be a pretty big change in terms of sizing (maybe 10% or more at volume), so what gives? The answer is pretty simple: vendors can’t agree on a standard, and hold to a tradition of mislabeling! I won’t bore you with the history, but a quick web search (warning: Reddit can be a dark place) will show you that a fairly arbitrary decision was made at the dawn of modern computing that led to confusion. Some blame marketing. Compute values went one way, storage values (mostly) went another. For a discussion on the difference between the two values check out this post from one of our Vanguards. The tl;dr is that TiB’s are base-2 while TB’s are base-10. In other words 1 TiB is 1,099,511,627,776 bytes while 1 TB is 1 trillion bytes. The problem is that most vendors (including Veea

bug report? refreshing the page

While taking hundreds of screenshots (on a mac) on the simple calculator for documentation for my customer’s sites, instead of hitting the “4” on the keyboard, I hit the “r” (command+r). the page refreshed. all of my calculations were gone. I inputted some data and tried it again to verify what I just saw; it is repeatable. Can the simple calculator be made to cache at least some details in the browser? since there is no export function, screenshots are the only way of documenting the results and clearly it’s a risky business doing so.
