In this short guide, I will highlight the steps to upgrade Veeam Backup and Replication v12.3.x to 12.3.2. This update for 12.3.2 (Build 12.3.2.3617) was released June 17, 2024). Upgrading to the latest version of Veeam Backup & Replication ensures you stay protected with critical security fixes, gain access to new features, and benefit from improved stability and performance.

Below are some of the vulnerabilities that the 12.3.2 addresses. I will recommend taking a look at this KB article to see the vulnerabilities resolved in Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3.2. They are:

  • CVE-2025-23121: Critical (CVSS 9.9): Remote code execution (RCE) by authenticated domain
  • CVE-2025-24286: High (CVSS 7.2): Authenticated Backup Operator could modify backup jobs to execute arbitrary code users on domain-joined backup servers.
  • CVE-2025-24287: Medium (CVSS 6.1): Local system users on Windows could modify directories to run arbitrary code; fixed in Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 6.3.2

In addition to vulnerabilities, please see the Release Information, and new features and enhancements for Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3. The release fixes these specific issues below:

  • Resolves errors in malware marking on German-localized SQL Server configuration DBs.
  • Fixes hangs in VMware vSphere application-aware processing and CDP proxy selection, plus issues during CDP failback.
  • Addresses delays and retention policy breakdowns in NAS and Tape jobs, problems with hardware encryption module updates, and orphan config entries in Tape jobs.
  • Fixes Cloud Connect cmdlet failure for tenants with multiple quotas

Missing Updates

When new updates are available, the console actively prompts you with a notification about the missing updates, as shown below. You can then navigate to the URL in order to get more information and have the updater ISO downloaded.

You can download the updater ISO from here to update from 12.3.0 or 12.3.1 to 12.3.2. The following ISO can be downloaded here and for existing upgrades from older major versions like 11a, 12.0, 12.2. For a direct or new deployment, please use this link to get the ISO.

For me, I will be using the updater ISO as shown below from 12.3.1 to 12.3.2.

You can check the installed build number in the Veeam Backup & Replication Console’s Main Menu (≡) under Help and then click on About.

For some details not considered or discussed in this blog post, please take a look at how to Upgrade Veeam Backup and Replication v12.3.x to 12.3.2.

I am currently running build:12.3.1.1139. With the updater ISO., we can perform an update from 12.3.x to 12.3.2

Upon download of the updater ISO, remember to unblock the security flag on the ISO file, since Windows automatically blocks files downloaded from the internet for security reasons.

Right-click to mount the ISO as shown below.

Double click on the mounted ISO and click on setup

Run the update now as shown below.

Upgrade Veeam Backup and Replication.

Accept the license agreement.

The following products will be upgraded. Do not forget to check the button to also automatically update remote components automatically and click next. Else, you will have to manually do this as discussed here

As you can see, the upgrade process has started

If a service fails to start, the system prompts you to retry, as shown below.

VBR has been successfully updated to the latest version at the time of writing this piece.

Let’s review the current installed build, as you can see. We are running Build 12.3.2.3617. This updater ISO made the upgrade way easier than for previous builds, as discussed below

I hope you are not just upgrading to 12.3.2 now LOL

Great article and better late than never as they say.  😋
