HPE and Veeam jointly validated HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 as an S3-compatible, immutable backup repository for Veeam Kasten v8. The team confirmed successful backup and restore behavior, Object Lock immutability enforcement, and post-retention cleanup. CSI-assisted local snapshot restore testing was performed with HPE CSI Driver 2.5.2.
Reference Architecture (at a glance)
-
Kubernetes cluster running Kasten K10 v8
-
Repository configuration: HPE Alletra MP X10000 S3 endpoint with Object Lock (immutability) enabled
-
Policies: App-aware backups with defined retention and periodic export plus restore validation
-
CSI for local snapshot flows: HPE CSI Driver 2.5.2
What HPE Validated
HPE configured the repository settings in Kasten to use the HPE Alletra MP X10000 S3 endpoint with Object Lock enabled, then ran immutable backups governed by policy-based retention. HPE performed restores from the repository and observed expected behavior end to end. After the retention window elapsed, the Kasten UI reported successful cleanup with no errors. HPE aligned the result with the Veeam Ready classification of Object – Object with Immutability, with Kasten listed as a supported product.
Why This Matters (3-2-1-1-0 and Business Outcomes)
This design is a key part of the 3-2-1-1-0 data protection strategy: three copies of data, two different media, one off-site copy, and one immutable copy via Object Lock.
For customers, that translates into clear outcomes. High-throughput object ingest on X10000 helps compress backup windows and reduce production impact as clusters scale. Object-locked backups together with Kasten’s application-aware recovery provide dependable last-resort restore points for ransomware scenarios.
This validation should equally apply to HPE Morpheus Kubernetes Service (MKS) because it uses standard CSI and S3-compatible endpoints, and we have targeted MKS tests in progress that are tracking to expectations.
Guidance for customers and what’s next
The intent is to share useful validation news without pre-announcing product roadmaps. Today’s takeaway is simple: X10000 is a validated immutable S3 repository for Kasten v8. For other areas where X10000 is used, specific use cases are still being defined. Some of that work falls under roadmap that cannot be discussed publicly just yet. Stay tuned, though… This type of validation informs what HPE has planned for the end of 2025 and into early 2026.
