One of our recent projects focused on modernizing a customer's data protection strategy, replacing a legacy environment with a resilient and recovery-ready architecture.
A key success factor was the ability to reuse the existing physical backup server and LTO tape library from the legacy solution, avoiding additional infrastructure investments and making the project financially viable. This approach enabled the customer to modernize its backup platform while protecting previous investments and accelerating adoption.
The Challenge
The customer was operating with a legacy Arcserve backup solution that presented several operational and business risks.

The Mission
Our objective was to modernize the entire data protection platform while establishing a security-first backup strategy.
The project included:
- Replacing the legacy Arcserve solution with a modern data protection platform.
- Deploying an immutable backup repository to strengthen protection against ransomware and accidental deletion.
- Extending backup coverage to all critical workloads across the environment.
- Implementing a backup strategy aligned with the industry-recognized 3-2-1-1-0 rule.
- Designing retention and recovery policies that support daily, weekly, monthly, and annual recovery requirements.
The Solution
The new environment introduced immutable storage, enhanced monitoring and visibility, validated backup operations, and structured retention policies across multiple recovery points. Restore testing procedures were also established to continuously verify backup integrity and recovery readiness.

Maximizing Existing Investments
One of the key project requirements was to preserve the existing physical infrastructure whenever possible.
Instead of replacing the legacy backup hardware, the solution was designed to reuse the existing physical server and LTO tape library already available in the environment.
This approach enabled the customer to modernize its data protection strategy with Veeam while maximizing previous investments, reducing project costs, minimizing deployment complexity, and accelerating time to value.
