Earlier this year, I kicked off a series on HPE storage platforms and their integrations with Veeam Backup & Replication. We started with the HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 and then looked at Veeam Ready – Appliance Hardened storage servers as secure backup repositories. I paused the series for a while to let some important HPE announcements catch up with the story I was telling and to complete more hands-on validation. Now is the right time to pick things back up with the HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000, the next natural step in the conversation.

This blog is not a deep dive into every feature of the X10000 — instead, it’s about where it fits into a Veeam-powered backup architecture, why it matters, and how it supports cyber resilience at enterprise scale.

The X10000 is HPE’s flagship object storage platform, built to manage unstructured data at scale with an all-flash, disaggregated architecture. Independent scaling of capacity and performance, powered by NVMe drives and 100 Gb Ethernet, ensures flexibility for both growth and performance needs. And with immutability validated in the Veeam Ready program, customers can trust it as part of a cyber-resilient foundation.

Key technical proof points:

  • In Veeam testing within a smaller HPE lab, sustained throughput of 10 GB/s was achieved, equal to about 35 TB per hour

  • HPE has demonstrated scale-out performance of up to 1.2 PB per hour, a testament to the X10000’s scalable architecture

  • Deduplication efficiency up to 60:1 when deployed behind StoreOnce with Catalyst

  • Defense in depth security with encryption in transit and at rest

In short, the X10000 delivers the speed, scale, and security that enterprises need to protect their growing data landscape while preparing for the future.

Why Veeam Cares About the X10000

Veeam strengthens this cyber resilient, future ready data platform story, and the X10000 delivers at scale, making it ideal for backup and long-term archive workloads. Its combination of performance and immutability make it a natural fit for Veeam repositories, providing enterprises with a reliable and efficient target for growing backup volumes.

Veeam’s 3-2-1-1-0 rule aligns directly with the immutability capabilities of the X10000. Veeam validated these features through the Veeam Ready Catalog, and on August 5, 2025 at Black Hat USA, HPE announced the general availability of the X10000 with Veeam as one of the first validated partners. Together, this validation and joint announcement give enterprises confidence in the platform as a trusted foundation for cyber resilient backup.

From a deployment perspective, customers have flexibility. Some will use the X10000 directly as a high performance S3 repository for Veeam backups. Others will position it behind a StoreOnce data protection accelerator node as Cloud Bank Storage for secondary backup storage, combining the deduplication benefits of Catalyst with the performance of all-flash. In the latter case, the result is backup and restore performance with lower overall storage cost, because Cloud Bank Storage combines the deduplication benefits of Catalyst with the performance of all flash.

Why This Matters for Customers

The X10000 on its own delivers scalability and agility with a platform designed to handle massive growth in unstructured data, and Veeam adds enterprise-grade backup and recovery capabilities that ensure this data remains resilient against today’s evolving threats. Together, they give customers a complete solution for both storing and protecting critical workloads.  With Veeam integrated, customers gain immutability and backup verification as part of the 3-2-1-1-0 rule, extending X10000’s native strengths into a cyber-resilient architecture.

One of the more intriguing benefits is the potential for data reuse. Once backups land on the X10000, whether directly as S3 object storage or via StoreOnce with Catalyst, they sit on an all-flash platform. This opens the door for partners and customers to reuse backup data for AI training, analytics, or test and development environments, adding value beyond traditional recovery.

Finally, the joint solution addresses two of the most pressing executive level concerns: how to store ever growing data lakes, and how to ensure that data is protected against cyber threats. By answering both questions in tandem, HPE and Veeam give customers confidence in a solution that is resilient, cost effective, and built to scale.

So, What’s Next?

The HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 is not only a data protection powerhouse, it also includes advanced AI driven functionality designed to optimize performance and efficiency across workloads. As enterprises explore new ways to reuse data for analytics and AI, there may be opportunities to deepen Veeam integration with these capabilities to enrich datasets or enhance restore performance. Stay tuned, the possibilities are only beginning.

HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 and Veeam together deliver a modern foundation for data protection and cyber resilience. By combining HPE’s all flash scale out architecture with Veeam’s leading data protection platform, enterprises can protect today’s workloads while preparing for tomorrow’s opportunities.

And in the next blog in this series, we’ll look at how HPE StoreOnce and Veeam work together to deliver cost-optimized, secure data protection at scale.
