Organizations worldwide use Microsoft Entra ID for identity and access management services. Microsoft Entra ID provides a solution to securely manage users, devices, applications, and data across cloud and on premises environments. Businesses rely on this service to manage and secure access to both internal and external resources, making it essential for their operations. With its integral function within organizations, it is also important that is protected.
Universally, there is a common misconception when it comes to cloud applications, that there is no need for back up. Why do we think this? Because it resides in the cloud of course! However, despite this viewpoint, it is critical for organizations to protect cloud data for many reasons, I mean it is your data after all. 🤔
The first reason we think of is security. It’s not only important to maintain the security of the environment but also its integrity. Implementing a backup system that can detect changes and restore data to its original state is crucial for maintaining the security of your data and organization. Next, we want to consider compliance and documentation. Different industries have different regulations they need to follow. Ensuring data is protected through automated backup processes, reduces risk and maintains compliance. Lastly recognize the everyday common mistake, a user accidentally deletes an object, or an object is permanently deleted. How do we get that data back? Well... recovering from backup of course!
Late last year, Veeam released Veeam Data Platform 12.3, which included backup for Microsoft Entra ID. This release brought data protection for both on-premises Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, ensuring uninterrupted access, significantly reducing the risk of cyber threats, attacks and human error. This solution helps maintain compliance and governance alignment, allowing you to continuous scale data protection across the organization. It delivers key features including
- Backups of Microsoft Entra ID tenants and Microsoft Entra ID audit and sign-in logs,
- Restores for users, groups, administrative units, roles, applications and service principles including their properties.
- Metadata comparison, allowing you to compare a backup to production to identify unwanted modifications or deletions, allowing you to restore back to its original state.
- Lastly, you can restore audit and sign-in logs allowing you to recover folders containing log files or individual log files.
