Question Replication

A Veeam existing customer has 2 datacenters. At present they are leveraging backup copy jobs to secondary immutable repositories on each data center. The company’s disaster recovery plan was multi-tiered, allowing for instant recovery of the most critical VMs and the normal VM recovery for less important workloads. However, the performance of the applications was deemed unacceptable. The company does not want to increase data transfer over their networks between data centers. What can be done with the existing setup to improve their disaster recovery plan?

I would set up replica's or CDP when VMware is used.

Scenario: The company does not want to increase data transfer over their networks between data centers and wants to improve DR. It uses a backup copy job to a secondary immutable repository.

If the customer only has VBR and uses vSphere or Hyper-V, I believe the immediate solution would be to implement Replica Seeding and Mapping. 😀

Based on their existing setup they could implement WAN Accelerators in High Bandwidth mode in order to make the transfers quicker for recovery.

There is also the option to implement CDP as well so if this was a question on the exam hopefully one of these would be marked as partial answer.  🤣

If it’s a question from the exam, I guess the answer to fulfill all the requirements is Replica From backups: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/replica_from_backup.html?ver=120😅

In real life, the answer is to get rid of stupid limits and accept to do both replica and backups on the same pipe, and increase it if needed.

that was my idea as well, i.e. source the replication from backup jobs. You would be surprised though how many times I had to set this up for customers back in the day because they did not want to increase the pipe. Mind you things may be changing as Data Protection is getting a lot more attention due to ransomware. At least hopefully they are changing 😀!
