I only found ETCD backup and restore for environment setup by Kubeadm in the documentation.

Does backup/restore of ETCD in Azure Arc-enabled Kubernetes supported by Kasten?
Thanks.

Hello @Nash Z,

I can get additional clarity but for the most part Kasten currently supports kubeadm and OCP. I would think if you know the exact steps, you could use the kubeadm etcd blueprint as an example and customize this to fit your needs, if the steps of Azure Arc are different.

Thanks

Emmanuel

Azure Arc-enabled Kubernetes is designed to work with self-managed Kubernetes clusters running outside of Azure. However, Kasten K10 only supports etcd backup and restore on clusters set up using kubeadm. Therefore, the key question is not whether the cluster is Azure Arc-enabled, but rather that the cluster must be set up using kubeadm for Kasten K10 to support etcd backup and restore.

Therefore, even if we are able to make the backup or restore of the ETCD in non-Kubeadm (and OC) setup workable, Veeam Support will not officially support the backup and restoration of ETCD.

Is this statement correct?
Thanks.

That’s correct. We don’t officially support the backup and restoration of ETCD and we don’t recommend it either.

In the case of cluster failures, it is often more efficient to restore your applications to a new cluster using Kasten backups rather than investing time and effort in repairing the failed cluster and restoring it from etcd backups. This approach streamlines the recovery process and helps ensure the continuity of critical applications without the need to deal with the complexities of cluster-level restoration.
