i would go with A if they were added as VMware proxies - but in this case, not as a normal managed server.

So it should be D: the Veeam Backup Server itself

To answer this question, you simply need to know what Veeam component is used for Linux VM GIP. The User Guide is pretty explicit in stating what is used →

For VMs running Linux or Unix operating systems, non-persistent runtime components are deployed from the backup server”, ….so the answer is d. Veeam Backup Server
