Somehow I missed this week’s VTT VMCE Practice Question on Wed again. Oops! No worries...I have it today 😉

For those new to the VMCE page, please hide your comment (guess). To do so → before typing your response, click the ellipsis icon on the far right of the format toolbar at the top in your comment box and select the Spoiler option. This will place a ‘hide comment’ text box in your comment box area. Click inside this hide comment text box and start typing your answer (guess). Be careful to not click outside of the box or your comment will show after saving. We want your comment to not show so others can take full advantage of these practice questions. Let me know if you have issues. Good luck!

A Scale-out Backup Repository with one local extent has been configured as follows:

SOBR Configuration

12 VMware VMs are being backed up daily by a Forward Incremental backup job, which has a 14-day retention policy, creating synthetic full backups on Saturdays.  After running for more than 31 days, which of the following would be accurate?

  1. The Performance Tier will contain the most recent 14–20 days of restore points.  The Capacity Tier will contain the older 17-23 days of restore points
  2. The Performance Tier will contain all restore points.  The Capacity Tier will contain zero restore points
  3. The Performance Tier will contain the most recent 14-20 days of restore points.  The Capacity Tier will contain 31-37 days of restore points
  4. Both the Performance Tier and Capacity tier will contain 14-20 day of restore points

i go with D - Both the Performance Tier and Capacity tier will contain 14-20 day of restore points

…because “Copy backups to Object storage as soon as they are created” is selected.

Since I posted the above question a bit late, I gave a couple extra days. Below is the answer to last week’s VTT question…

Show content

Some key points in the question which need to be considered: 1) 14 day Retention; 2) both Copy and Move are enabled; 3) Forward Incremental (anyone know why?); 4) Understanding of what the Operational Window is, as well as the configured days.

Taking into consideration the above points, we can eliminate 2 options right off the bat → a. and b. Why? Choice a. couldn’t be correct because of the Retention setting. So the Capacity Tier would have at least 14-20 RPs, not 17-23, which also means b. is not correct, because it states “Capacity Tier of 0 RPs”. That leaves c. and d. Option c. cannot be correct because of the Retention of 14 days; with 14 being the setting, the Operational Window will never be met. That leaves d. Both the Performance Tier and Capacity tier will contain 14-20 day of restore points as the correct answer.
