Good Thursday morning Community. I know I’m a day late for the VTT VMCE practice question. I apologize. I am traveling as this weekend is a holiday weekend here in the U.S. (Labor Day weekend). But, I’ll get both yesterday’s and today’s question posted for you all. They shouldn’t be too bad 😊

Please remember to hide your comments and all the best in your guesses!

When restoring Linux or Unix guest OS files, which components can be used to mount the volume containing the files to be restored?  (Choose 2)

  1. SMB share
  2. Mount server
  3. NFS share
  4. Helper appliance
  5. Helper host

When you perform guest OS file restore, Veeam Backup & Replication provides the following options for mounting VM disks from the backup or replica:

  • Mounting disks to a helper host. As a helper host, you can select the target host where you want to restore files from the backup or any other Linux server. We recommend you to specify the same server to which you want to restore the files. This will improve the performance.
  • Mounting disks to a helper appliance. The helper appliance is a helper VM running a stripped down Linux kernel that has minimal set of components. The appliance is quite small — around 50 MB. It requires 2048 MB RAM and 2 CPU.

Hi @Jay-Alberto -

Thanks for taking part in the practice VMCE questions. I ask when you do so, to please hide your comments just as others have done above to give others an uninfluenced option to take a guess themselves. To hide your comment/guess, edit your question by clicking the ellipsis on the lower right of your comment > Edit. In the formatting menu, select the ellipsis to the far right then select the “spoiler” option. A ‘hide comment’ text box will be added in the edit comment window. Cut your guess/comment and paste in the hide comment box, then save your changes.

Let me know if you need further help.

Thanks.

And the answer to this week’s VTT VMCE practice question is…

Let’s knock 2 options out from the start → a. and c. as they have nothing to do mounting needs of Veeam to restore guest files from Linux VMs. That leaves us 3 options for 2 answers needing selected. And the answers are d. Helper appliance and e. Helper host. For more info on performing restore of Linux guest files, see link below:

i was initially thinking b & d bcz mount server is always close to repo iLHR server where the disks are mounted (by default it’s the VBR server) but it’s better to have a mount server. But it’s helper appl and helper host!. Thx for this question
