With insights for Veeam Backup & Replication, and VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper‑V, Veeam ONE (part of Veeam Data Platform Essentials, Advanced and Premium editions) delivers deep, intelligent monitoring, reporting and automation through interactive tools.
Veeam ONE provides complete visibility of the virtual and backup infrastructure and allows you to:
- Manage, view and interact with alarms and monitoring data
- Analyze performance of virtual and backup infrastructure objects
- Keep an eye on multi-tenant environments
- Track the efficiency of data protection in the virtual environment
- Generate reports and administer monitoring settings
- Speed up troubleshooting and quickly isolate root causes of performance issues before they become problems
Before you begin your Veeam ONE installation, review the below reference material to understand the system requirements for each Veeam ONE component:
- Check account permissions. Make sure the user account that Veeam ONE will be installed under has sufficient permissions.
- Check ports. Make sure all required ports are open for communication between Veeam ONE components, virtualization servers, VMware vCloud Director servers and Veeam Backup & Replication servers.
Veeam ONE Sizing (Application Server Sizing):
We typically deploy the Veeam ONE server and Veeam ONE web services (Client UI) on the same server. The web services require no additional computing requirements on top of the Veeam ONE server requirements.
Note: If you are concerned about security you can consider placing these services on a separate server.
Most importantly the sizing of the front-end server is based on the Data Collection type (Backup Data Only or Virtual Infrastructure). Review the attached link that gives details on understanding the difference between these collection modes.
Note: You can change the data collection type and retention after the fact with the (Veeam ONE Server Utility).
Veeam ONE SQL (SQL Sizing):
Veeam ONE can be deployed on SQL Express for very small environments which can be automatically installed during the initial deployment wizard. This is for sub 50 licenses, demo or test is the best use-case here.
For larger environments, it is best to deploy Veeam ONE Database on a dedicated or standalone SQL server as Veeam ONE can grow quickly in size for those bigger environments.
Review the attached link for SQL Server Compute considerations. Ensure you use Veeam ONE Database Sizing calculator to calculate your compute and storage requirements.
Note: If you are going to use a dedicated SQL server for Veeam ONE that is installed on another server, you will need to run an SQL script to pre-build the database to connect to it during the installation wizard.

In this video, we take a tour of exactly how to go about installing Veeam ONE and explain all the options to help you to achieve a successful implementation:
Once your Veeam Backup & Replication jobs are running, staying updated on their status is key to a healthy operating environment that meets your recovery objectives.
Veeam ONE Business View allows you to categorize and group machines based on business function or by machine type. This allows you to manage and digest your environment from a non-technical perspective. Veeam ONE also makes it easy to ensure critical machines are getting the proper protection and meeting compliance regulations. This video demonstrates how to import/export tags, create categories and groups and ensure the proper notifications are set.
Did you know? Right out of the box, Veeam ONE has over 300 alarms, including some with predefined remediation actions that can help you detect and resolve issues like VMs with no replica, disabled backup jobs, too many snapshots on the VM or orphaned VM backup snapshots.
During this video, we demonstrate how you can adjust alarms to better fit your applications, setup automatic remediation actions and notifications to ensure no critical issue goes unnoticed.
Continue by watching about Veeam ONE’s preconfigured reports and dashboards that can be leveraged to detect and respond to ransomware:
By default, all predefined alarms are configured to send email notifications to the default notification group when the alarm severity changes to any level. You can change alarm notification settings and define conditions when notifications must be sent.
