NAS File Share backups are based on days not restore points as per here - Step 4. Specify Backup Repository Settings - User Guide for VMware vSphere (veeam.com)
I would assume that there is a maximum number of days, which appears to be 999 as well based on the job I have in my lab.
I would suggest having this low and a secondary copy if you need longer retention.

In checking agent backup jobs, I see the limit is now 730 days or restore points.
But for NAS file share backup jobs I can enter up to 999 months and its accepted -
