I am stuck that the helper appliance dialog box.
I select a server from the list, but the OK button is disabled?
Using VBR 12.1.0.2131
I searched around the forum and internet, could not find the answer

Note: instant restore of a windows vm works as expected.
Yes, because Windows doesn't require a helper appliance to be set up 😊

It appears you're needing to choose a proper network on the virtual host for the helper appliance to use to connect to the network with. This virtual host seems to not have a network set up thus the ok button is not enabled.

The helper appliance is an auxiliary Linux-based VM registered by Veeam Backup & Replication.

+21You need to have the helper appliance for Linux restores but as Shane noted the network is not configured on the host. Also see this for the limitations with Helper Appliances for restores.
