Preparing backup proxy VMWare backup proxy for hard disk 1 ( nbd)

Hi, I am taking backup of my VMs through Veeam. but when backup is stated then a error is shown that is “Preparing backup proxy VMWare backup proxy for hard disk 1 (nbd)” & Object refference not set to an instance of an object. please help . Thanks

Hello @MBG 

I suppose you have a VMware infrastructure, you did’nt use the SAN and Hotadd method for your proxy. 
Do you have the error for all your VM or only one?

I already had this error in the past, I did the following :

  • remove the vm from the veeam job
  • remove the vm from inventory in vCenter
  • re added the vm in vCenter
  • re added the vm in veeam job

Check the logs here to see what is being reported as well to help narrow down the issue - C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup

As noted NBD mode is the primary method used if no other can be.

Hi @MBG

it’s possible the VM was recently restored or moved to another esxi host where vlan is not tagged or not reachable from your proxy?

Yes i face this error for all VM’s and already follow your mentioned points but still same issue occure.

You might want at this point to open a Support case to get them to help you troubleshoot the issue.
