Veeam Service Provider Rental Licensing Questions

Userlevel 1

Require some clarification on Veeam Rental licensing.  Do rental licenses follow the same offering as the Veeam Universal License (VUL) offering listed in the Veeam Licensing Policy? Meaning, for every 1 license of Veeam Backup & Replication, they are offered in packs of 10 instances? We report per workload type (VM, Workstation) on a monthly basis to our aggregator.  With that said, does that mean it’s a 1:1 ratio for rental licenses? for every protected workload you have to license per unit (VM, Server, Workstation).

Generally a little confused with the different offerings between commercial and rental, and whether rental licenses follow the VUL offering.

The MSP rental licenses are working different than the VUL.

For the rental licenses you can contract an amount of points you will be using at least. Depending on the amount of points you are contracting the price of each point varies. you can use the rental license without a contracted amount ot points - the expensiest possibility. The next amounts of points at which each point get less expensive are 1500 and 3500.

The amount of points each kind of backup costs, depends on the license edition (Enterprise or Enterprise  Plus).

  • VM Backup with Enterpise - 9 Points
  • VM Backup with Enterpise - 11 Points
  • Agent Backup (Ent and Ent+) - 11 Points
  • And so on. The rental licenses should use the same amount of points for each kind of backups or Veeam feature as the VUL.

The easiest way to get all information about this is to contact your local Veeam sales representative.

Joe,

Thanks for the quick response.  I am aware of Points Per Unit and the Rental Agreement, just making sure that the rental licenses are just licensed per workload, and not licensed like VUL, where you get bundles.

Case Scenario:

Client has 45 Hyper-V protected VMs through VBR Enterprise Plus.

If licensed commercial direct with VUL, they would only require 10 licenses of VBR Enterprise Plus

If licensed rental, they would require 45 VMware/Hyper-V VMs (1:1)

No, no bundles for the rental licenses.

All used points are summed up each month and have to be reported to Veeam or your aggegrator via the web portal.

Just to add there’s 200 and 800 point options now I believe 🙂

The rental licenses are more granular than VUL so you can charge per instance, plus there are additional benefits if you’re offering a Cloud Connect Backup service. Your sales rep will definitely have the most up to date information
