"We're researching and doing some prototyping around Proxmox to see what's possible there as far as backup goes," Anton Gostev, Veeam's senior veep for product management posted on January 11.
Another Veeam product manager, Fabian Kessler, last week confirmed that effort, writing "Proxmox is something we are doing some early research on."
As found on Reddit/The Register. Of course, it all ties back to the R&D Forums, so I guess I should keep a better eye there since I hadn’t seen anything posted on the Community Hub yet. Glad to hear something is being researched. Wondering what other products are being researched. I haven’t looked at it yet, but XCP-NG seems to be another open source project gaining traction.
Obviously many folks are very invested in the VMware ecostructure, but I’m curious of anyone here, especially service providers has begun looking into alternatives? Mostly backups have held me off from really setting up any lab environments for testing, but if Veeam is looking at adding more hypervisor support to the mix, that would certainly make alternatives like Proxmox another viable solution.
