customer on veeam v12.2.

They have storeonce at both sites and S3 at site2.

With backup copy at storage level (catalyst), Veeam controls the copy via the storeonce appliances performing the replication.

If I choose image-level backup copy, this gives options for VMs and repos to copy.

We also have “data transfer” for Direct. When it says direct is this storeonce to storeonce like storage level copy or does data go via another route?

I need to know if there are considerable differences.

thanks

Are you referring to the Direct transfer being to S3 or the secondary Catalyst in the other site?  But mainly it is repository to secondary location for the data transfer.  It would not be Storeonce to Storeonce that I am aware of.

so we have site1 writing to catalyst store1

we have site2 with catalyst store2

we perform backups to store1

catalyst store2 and S3 are setup as a SOBR

we create a copy job, image level based on source repo store1 and target as SOBR.

I need to make sure traffic is storeonce to storeonce but not sure…..

In this case it would not be Storeonce to Storeonce even with Direct selected.  This option leverages Veeam infrastructure to send the data to the secondary location that being the SOBR.

See this link - Step 9. Specify Data Path Settings - User Guide for VMware vSphere (veeam.com)

At this step of the wizard, you can select how Veeam Backup & Replication will transport backed up data — directly or through WAN accelerators. By default, during the backup copy job Veeam Backup & Replication transports data directly from the source backup repository to target backup repository. This type of transport is recommended if you plan to copy backup files over high-speed connections

thanks, so it looks like the proxies tied to the source and target repos will be used for data transmission….

Yes that is the case here.  Hopefully everything works out.

thanks Chris. For Storeonce I think we need to test the storage level copy but have the destination target as a SOBR which contains storeonce catalyst store as perf tier then S3 as capacity

Yeah I am sure that would better but requires a different setup from what I know.

or if not, then we may need WAN accelerators for this function
