hi all….

I am puzzled if I create a SOBR:

  • performance tier = backup appliance, immutable for 14 days
  • capacity tier = Azure Blob

Can data move to the capacity tier within 14days?

Can I set policy to move them monthly so that the backed data is no longer immutable?

Or I have to use SOBR copy function?

If only SOBR copy, it does not release storage space from the backup appliance, what’s the different if I use BCJ to Azure Blob?

If you have them in a SOBR then it will offload based on the settings confiured and free up space on the capacity tier.

BCJ to Azure would not free up the space on the appliance but rather make another copy of the data.

@GoldenTree The files will be moved only when two conditions are in place, one is the file must be out restore operacional windows and the file must belong to a inactve backup chain

Hi @GoldenTree -

If you have immutability configured, the “move” operation is not available with SOBR because immutable data cannot be “changed”. You would only have the option to use the Copy to Capacity Tier function.

As Chris shared also...for a BCJ > Azure, that obviously only performs a copy of your data so the data on your Perf Tier would be retained (space still taken up).

You can read more about the services/features you’re inquiring about below:
