Had a server get updated to a new version of Windows Server. Is a new full backup necessary? Will Veeam run one automatically if it is?

Are we talking about agent or vm backups?

For agent backups I would certainly create an active full backup as I wouldn’t trust CBT anymore.

For VM backups an incremental run should also work as CBT is independet of the OS. The incremental will sure be much bigger as usual but that’s all.

I am not sure if a full is done automatically.

But there will not be very much unchanged blocks on the systems drive. So I think, an active full is a good idea. You have a clean starting point then….

I am sure it will not run one automatically and just be slightly bigger with the added data. As suggested it would be a good idea to run one for a clean starting point to ensure successful restores, etc.

It’s a VM backup.
