Deletion of old backup copies after removing individual computer/deleting or disabling the backup job - Agent managed

Hi All,

Currently we are using Agent managed backup jobs. When we perform the decommission of backup jobs/remove a computer/workstation from backup job/rotation, we have to keep track of the retention of deleted computer/job manually and to remove the backup copies from ‘Disk(Orphaned)’/’Disk(Imported)’ . We have also enabled the ‘Remove deleted items data after’ parameter. But still we could see some scenarios were we want to delete the backup copies manually. My expectation is Veeam to delete the backup copies automatically once it crosses the set retention (even after the job/computer is removed from backup rotation). Is there a way to achieve it?

Hi,

Can I confirm, you’re using Agent managed backups to a Veeam B&R Repository?

@MicoolPaul - Yes Michael, we are using Agent managed backups to the Deduplication appliance as Veeam repository.

Hello @bharathn

Backup files created with Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows are removed automatically according to the retention policy settings. If necessary, you can remove a backup file manually with a file manager, for example, Microsoft Windows Explorer.

Always delete the whole backup chain from the target location. If you delete a full backup file or individual incremental backup file from the backup chain, the chain will be broken, and Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows will fail to perform the scheduled backup next time.

If you remove the whole backup chain from the target location, during the next backup job session, Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows will produce a new full backup. All subsequent backups will be incremental.

Please check this for manual delete backup:
