Hi everyone,

I have 2 servers with VBR and I’m trying to connect one of those as a backup proxy of the other, so i can manage backups from a single backup server and disable the other one.

adding the server as general purpose and CDP proxy works just fine but when I try to add it as vmware proxy it shows me an error message “Transport service is unavailable”.

I checked, the service is online and correctly listens on the default port (matter of fact it works as general purpose and cdp proxy, as stated above).

The server runs on the very esxi host I’m trying to backup, same hypervisor this server backups daily with no trouble.

I updated and rebooted the server with no success. I cannot understand the problem.

Can it be because they are slightly different versions?

The server that has the problem is version 12.1.1.56 while the server I’m trying configure the proxy in has version 12.1.0.2131.

Never encountered this, please help, I read some documentation and the system requirements are fine.

Yes you cannot have different versions of Veeam as they need to be same versions.  It will throw errors like this when they are different.  Try upgrading everythingt to 12.2 which is the latest release and has critical CVE fixes in it.

I understand your concern, is the same thing i thought of, but why does the same server work as general purpose and CDP proxy just fine? Isn’t it the same service, same version?

Hi,

Sadly this is not the problem I’m encountering, I cannot add the server as Vmware Proxy in the first place. The connection between the server and vCenter are not even checked and set yet.

under Managed Servers go to microsoft windows please first add server there and make sure following ports are open.

once server added then go to proxy option and add proxy as a vmware and check the below.

let me add live proxy server in my environment.

VMWARE Backup Proxy

new vmware proxy

They are different services and run on different ports, etc.  So that is why having the same versions across the board is a good idea.

I faced this problem today, started Veeam Mount service then fixed it.
