Great Post 🙃

In all seriousness, i’m interested to see how this plays out. They have their own opensource backup product. Where will Veeam fit into that eco system is something I am keen to hear about.

There’s been a lot of requests by the homelab and SMB community for alternative hypervisors like Proxmox and XCP-NG.  Not having a viable backup solution (aside from Veeam agents) was a sticking point for a lot.  It’s amazing how the world has turned to people choosing a hypervisor based on what their backup product will support, but we’re now living in a world where hypervisors have become or are becoming a commodity and you have a lot of choices, some better than others, some better suited for SMB, others for enterprise, etc.  I’m glad to see Veeam giving that freedom of choice.

Without going into much detail, this is similar to other native backup provided by other vendors and cannot compete with the capabilities, compliance and regulatory requirements Veeam brings. Also, Veeam is cross-platform etc. The list goes on and on...
