What kind of storage for backup and restoration efficiency?

Hello Veeam Community, What is the trend for you to build a good repository for a large company? I’m investigating for 2021 to replace our dedup appliance, i really like the HPE Apolo Gen10 to store veeeam data on xfs!One node full HDD 50k~ 960TB, 512 gb ram, 4*25gb, xeonOne node full SSD 250k ~ 600 TB, 512 gb ram, 4*25gb, xeonThe second is expansive but could be usefull for application but very low RTO and instant Recovery DB! I want to build something focus about restore, we’r no more dupe with xfs :)

Veeam Backup & Replication 10a Patch 20201202 released

I’ve just read about the release of Cumulative Patch 20201202 for VBR 10a in the forums and wanted to share it here: https://www.veeam.com/kb4050I think the support for vSphere 7.0 U1 and Windows 20H2 is what many people were waiting for.

Return expired tapesto free state

I have a suggestion/issue for/with the VEEAM tape handling…In the definition of a tape pool you can select that tapes from free state are transferred to this pool if required.But when tapes expire in a type pool, then the tapes keep in this tape pool in expired state and are not returned to free state.In the worst case the expired tape accumulate in this pool when there a less tapes needed as before. So the tapes in free state decreases continually and you have to manually transfer the expired tapes in the pools to free state.I think it would be useful when VEEAM does this by itself. Thenn all tape pools can get free tapes and all free tapes are shown in the correct state...What do you think?

Backup duration in VSPC

Hello everyone,wouldn’t it be nice if we could see the duration of every backup job inside the Veeam Service Provider Console?I am pretty sure I could see this kind of information before in the following view, when the tool was still called Veeam Availability Console.I guess this is a feature that has been removed.What do you think? Veeam Backup for Office 365 V5 Show stopping bug

Morning Guys, So like a lot of you we’ve been playing with Veeam Backup for Office 365 v5 and deploying the updates on our services and for our customers, we’re catching a bug fairly frequently that is having major consequences. The Veeam Repository isn’t able to upgrade, which is a requirement for the subsequent backups to run, causing immediate backup issues. We’ve engaged with Veeam support and been informed that there’s a hotfix, but that hotfix has also caused issues it appears and jobs are still failing to run. Just wanted to advise prior to everyone upgrading their productions, it might be worth waiting for a few more days… Thanks!

Veeam configuration database backup - dual repos

Any talk of adding this to config backup function? I know to add a file copy job for config db backups but an unnecessary step I think and always the risk of forgetting this?

Hello all,I see in Veeam 10 that the notification email for backup job change and now include the backup job linked.Exemple :[Failed] Backup Copy Job 00-HyperV\Backup Job 00-HYPERV (2 machines) There is a way to remove \Backup Job 00-HYPERV ?We have scripts which read mail to make globals reports and this make confusion. How to export job protocol

I spend some time in searching for a way to export job/task log as it is shown in VBR GUI:I found ways to export all logs in detail, but not these are displayed in GUI. Helpful would be PowerShell, API, Rest, or anything else that works.Not to be misunderstood: I do not need the job/task status, I need the logs. Thanks!

How to deal with vmware snapshot? veeam functionnality to replace this

Hello everyone,In our company due to bad practices, some application integrators was using vmware snapshot before doing applications deployments on legacy part (no more needed with openshift). Obviously they often forgot to remove snapshot or maintain snapshot cauz they’re waiting answer from project team.We replaced this hijacked habit and provide to integrator/devops the possibility to launch quickbackup in the first time. It was not enough for stagging part and we had to provide capability to create veeam zip with one year retention (yes i know it’s bad...) . We did awx roles for this too because they wre missing the vmware snapshot comment…I’m curious to hear if other people have encountered a similar situation :)

How to know / classify type of data who have been backup?

Hello Veeamor / Veeamers :D!I want to inventory and classify, what kind of data is backuped and store with veeam.I was thinking to use excellent work from @benyoung with dataintegration but i will have performance issue.If i have to request 5000VMS+ and mount all vmdk with then process all data, it could be too long. After data gathering, i’m pushing it with python to elasticsearch (ML incoming on it). What is your suggestion about it? Maybe i’m going to the wrong path ! Have a good friday everyone!

How to migrate existing repositories (to XFS)?

I think a lot of customers will plan to migrate their existing repositories (NTFS, ReFS) to a new XFS repository with immutability in v11. I am curious about the options you see to migrate backup files to a new XFS repository. I have already said goodbye to the idea, block-linked (block clone (ReFS), reflink (XFS)) data can be copied without dehydration. A nice way is to put a new repository into place and let the old one(s) fade out. But how to move long-term backup? How do you migrate backup repositories?

Nimble HF40 as backup target

Hi floks,does anyone use a Nimble HF40 as backup target for Veeam. So backup repository is configured als LUN formated with ReFS. We face really bad performance during tape jobs. After all it seems, Nimble Storage is not able to deliver more than 380 MB/s. With one tape drive configured to a job, the calculated processing rate within this job is 152 MB/s. Really bad performance...

Thoughts about these feature requests

Just though about 2 feature request, I would forward to my local Veeam account manager. Would be interested in your opinions. Or maybe there is already a practicable workaround.Change transport mode per backup/replication jobs This would make it easier to use a more suitable mode for selected VMs. For example it can result in better duration time when a lot of small VMs are backed up by NBD. Pre-View of selected VMs When selecting Folder/Tags/[new in v11]Tag Combination as backup source, it would be very useful to see all VMs that would be included at the press of a button.What do you think?
