Segnalo che sta per arrivare in RTM la versione 11a, prevista per il Q4 2021. Di seguito le principali novità:

Veeam Agents for IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris support

Veeam ONE v11a continues expanding its coverage of Veeam Agents by adding support for the Unix Agents family to make sure each workload running these operating systems can be effectively and continuously protected by Veeam Backup & Replication. New capabilities include:

  • Monitoring and alerting: With this release, customers can gain full control over the protection state of the machines running IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris operating systems, identify machines with no recent backups, find out disabled backup policies, and detect suspicious activity potentially affecting the machines, and thus, the whole IT landscape.
  • Reporting: V11a introduces a rich number of reports covering IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris backups to help customers simplify auditing of backup operations, identify unprotected machines, build custom reports for their unique needs, plan repository infrastructure expansions, and make sure configuration of backup policies is consistent across the backup environment.

Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform support

Veeam ONE v11a expands coverage of Veeam Cloud products to support Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform. With this addition, customers running their mission-critical workloads in Google Cloud Platform and utilizing Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform along with Veeam Backup & Replication can get at-a-glance visibility into data protection operations. The unique benefits include:

  • Monitoring and alerting: Now operation teams can make sure each backup operation completes successfully and on time, stay up to date on disabled backup policies, and identify backup policies taking a suspiciously high amount of time to complete.
  • Reporting: Starting with V11a, customers can easily assess their backup environment for compliance with the desired recovery point objective (RPO) period, which helps to make sure every Google Cloud Platform virtual machine is timely protected.  

Linux Hardened Repository and immutability support

Effective and resilient data protection has always been a priority for Veeam, and this release is not an exception. Now, customers utilizing backup resiliency features of Linux Hardened Repository have a comprehensive view of immutability configuration settings and can easily make sure the created backups are truly immutable now and will stay this way going forward.

  • Monitoring and alerting: Starting now, backup administrators do not need to perform any manual actions to be notified if there are backup repositories and scale-out backup repository extents supporting immutability but not having it enabled. Moreover, any changes applied to the immutability configuration settings can now be reflected in the mailboxes of the responsible persons, thanks to newly added alarms.
  • Reporting: With V11a, customers can track and report on the length of the immutability period of each restore point created on Linux Hardened Repository, assess the configuration of the immutability settings of Linux Hardened Repositories and scale-out backup repositories consisting of Linux Hardened Repository extents, and track immutability configuration changes over time for simplified auditing and compliance.

Alarms

  • Database log backup job state enhancements: With V11a, monitoring teams can identify which particular workload is affected by an issue when using database log backup jobs by analyzing enhanced error descriptions.

Reports

  • Workload protection history report enhancements: Users can now customize the report output by selecting desired columns, view KPI graphs to make sure the backup KPIs are met and success/failure rates are staying at the appropriate level, report on backup copy (periodic) jobs transferring Nutanix AHV backups and file to tape jobs. Additionally, the report now offers a wider range of available columns to fit very specific granular reporting requirements. This range now also includes an immutability period for each restore point of every workload whose backup is located on Linux Hardened Repository.
  • Backup infrastructure custom data report enhancements: With V11a, customers can utilize a newly added unified “Workload” object which currently includes virtual and physical machines to generate a single custom report for the entire environment. Additionally, we’ve expanded the number of available attributes (columns) for the existing objects to allow more customization options and added Veeam Backup & Replication cumulative patch level to the “Backup server version” attribute.
  • Data change rate history report enhancements: The report has got a complete overhaul and now can be used to perform long-term storage capacity planning based on data change rates – not only for virtual but also for physical machines. Customers and partners can now define calculation settings, view historical graphs, and analyze detailed data change rate values in percentage.
  •  Cloud Connect user report (replication) report enhancements: Starting with V11a, service providers utilizing VMware Cloud Director with Veeam Cloud Connect can report on the VMware Cloud Director infrastructure resources and Cloud Director organizations to get an at-a-glance view of the consumed and remaining cloud infrastructure resources.
  • Backup alarms overview report: Customers now have more visibility into the issues affecting VMware vSphere virtual machines processed by Veeam Continuous Data Protection (CDP) technology and can identify the topmost problematic virtual machines.
  • Restore operator activity report: With this release, customers can report on the amount of data restored and identify the age of the restore point involved in the restore process.

New RESTful API (preview)

Veeam ONE continues to expand its RESTful API coverage, and now provides a preview of the REST API endpoints planned to be delivered in the future major Veeam ONE version. These endpoints allow organizations to utilize the flexibility of the REST API interface and get access to the enriched data for further seamless integration with third-party workflows and solutions. The endpoints include, but are not limited to:

  • Virtual infrastructure: Now customers can pull any data related to the virtual infrastructure components added to Veeam ONE, be it a VMware vSphere host sensor status or a simple VM state.
  • Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure and jobs: V11a enables querying for any data related to Veeam Backup & Replication, including jobs, backup infrastructure components, backup metrics, and so on.
  • Workloads and data protected by Veeam Backup & Replication: Interested in getting the protection status of a particular virtual, physical, or maybe even cloud machine? Not an issue, V11a has this data handy for you.
  • Alarms: With V11a, operation teams can build custom monitoring dashboards and integrations with ITSM systems with the help of RESTful API.
  • Business View: With this version, customers can get all the available information about Veeam ONE Business View categories, groups, contained objects, and their attributes for integrating it with any dashboard or reporting system.

The preview version of the new RESTful API is fully supported by Veeam and we’ll be glad to hear your feedback on it.

Alarms

  • Veeam ONE email notification delivery failure: Backup operations teams can now easily catch issues with automatic SMTP notifications to make sure all the most critical operational information gets delivered on time.
  • Alarm notification scripts: With V11a, monitoring engineers can pass object names that made the child alarms trigger to the custom scripts, allowing deeper integration with external ticketing systems.

Reports

  • License usage report: Following our workflow changes, the license usage report can now be approved only during the first five days of a month. The automated approvals have been adjusted accordingly and now will happen on the sixth day of each month. Additionally, cloud virtual machines protected by Veeam Backup for AWS, Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure, and Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform products are now being counted separately and each platform has a dedicated counter.

Le piattaforme supportate aggiunte:

  • VMware vSphere 7.0 Update 3 support: Organizations can now monitor and report on VMware infrastructures running vSphere 7 Update 3.
  • VMware Cloud Director 10.3 support: Service providers can now perform monitoring and reporting tasks on VMware Cloud Director 10.3 infrastructures.
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2022 support: Customers can now be sure that Microsoft Hyper-V servers and virtual machines using the latest Microsoft Windows Server operating system version can be monitored by Veeam ONE, while also being confident about installing Veeam ONE components on top of it.

Mentre sono stati risolti 150 fix minori, tra cui:

  • Data collection: The data collection engine has been improved to properly handle situations when an infrastructure server was added to monitoring after prior removal. Additionally, several issues affecting data collection performance have been fixed.
  • VMware vSphere tags data collection: The VMware vSphere tags data is now stored independently which allows the use of Business View groups categorization based on VMware vSphere tags to exclude virtual machines from monitoring.
  • Microsoft Hyper-V SMB shares data collection: Now Veeam ONE utilizes the account specified in the connection settings of the Microsoft Hyper-V server to collect performance counters from standalone SMB shares attached to Microsoft Hyper-V servers.
  • Data retention: Reworked the approach to clearing obsolete data to get rid of the situations when obsolete data had been left in the Veeam ONE database and was causing issues.
  • Data maintenance: Fixed an issue causing the data maintenance task to fail in specific conditions due to obsolete data being present in the database.
  • Upgrade: Multiple improvements to the underlying operations performed as a part of an upgrade from the previous versions that are intended to improve data consistency, components stability, and fix upgrade failures in certain scenarios.
  • Installation: Fixed an issue causing the setup to fail on the machines with the "Interactive logon: Require Windows Hallo for Business or smart card" policy enabled.
  • Licensing: Fixed an issue where Veeam ONE was consuming the license twice for monitored VMs being at the same time protected by monitored Veeam Agents.
  • Monitoring service: Fixed an issue causing a deadlock of the service under heavy load.
  • General reporting improvements: Multiple improvements in the various reports that are intended to improve report generation speed, data accuracy, and fix report generation failures.
  • Backup infrastructure assessment report: The ability to expand the rows has been removed to fix duplicated records when exporting the report in Microsoft Excel format. The design of the data output has been adjusted to make it easier to read through the report.
  • Oversized VMs report: Fixed an issue when virtual machines residing on a datastore located out of the selected virtual infrastructure reporting scope were missing in the report output.
  • Protected VMs report: Fixed an issue when virtual machines residing on a datastore located out of the selected virtual infrastructure reporting scope were missing in the report output.
  • Proxy Usage and Repository Usage widgets: Removed the artificial limitation to the number of shown objects.
  • VMware vSphere connection error messages: Improved the texts of connection errors that may appear upon adding VMware vSphere infrastructure to Veeam ONE.
  • Email notifications: Fixed an issue causing frequent connection attempts to the SMTP server. Fixed an issue causing email delivery failures.
  • Security: Multiple security-related improvements in various components, intended to increase the resiliency of the system. Additionally, Veeam ONE components now inherit TLS version settings configured on the underlying operating system layer.

E voi, che feedback avete dall’attuale 11?

Non ho ancora avuto modo di provare in ambiente di test di eseguire un ransomware con accesso al nas e riscontrare se effettivamente i backup rimangono immutati :)

Basta che provi a deletare il backup immutabile 😛.

Ma se hai un lab protetto fai anche la prova con un ransomware!

Ciao, io mi riferivo a problematiche riscontrate sull’installato dei clienti fra la versione 10 e la 11.

Confermo, 10 e 11 attualmente funzionano in egual misura senza problematiche riscontrate. Anzi la 11 ha dimostrato essere ancora in grado di eseguire backup di vm PARECCHIO obsolete. Gran suite di backup.

Non ho ancora avuto modo di provare in ambiente di test di eseguire un ransomware con accesso al nas e riscontrare se effettivamente i backup rimangono immutati :)

Sinceramente no ho ancora molti riscontri di differenze sostanziali fra la 10 e la 11 sul campo.

Comunque io ho la 11 e non ho nessun problema.
