Today’s “bonus” question comes from one of Veeam’s Technical Trainers (VTT). See below:

You need to protect Linux physical servers using dynamic grouping. How would you proceed?

  1. Use vSphere tags to create the backup jobs
  2. Use AD organizational units to create protection groups and create backup jobs for the protection groups
  3. Use CSV files to create protection groups and create backup jobs for the protection groups
  4. Create the protection groups manually and then run a pre job execution script to add the Linux servers

I would say B if the Linux servers are joined to AD (through sssd) and moved to a dedicated OU, C otherwise.

A - No, because its Physical Servers, not VMs.

B - Not optimal, as that’s not common practice to have Linux Servers Domain Bound (at least, not that I’ve seen in the wild). Possible, yes, but not the best choice.

C - Yes. From the documentation: “ Protection groups that include computers listed in a CSV file are also dynamic. If a new computer appears in a CSV file after the protection group is created, during the next protection group rescan session, Veeam Backup & Replication will automatically update the protection group settings to include the added computer. “

D - No mention of this type of functionality being “dynamic” in the documentation.

Remember, on VMCE exams, there many be multiple ‘correct’ answers, but the test is looking for the ‘best’ answer, and they heavily go off of what the documentation provides. In this case, C looks to be the best answer, even though others may work.
