Welcome to the Cyber Security Space! This is your one stop shop for anything related to cyber security! Read about a fresh new exploit? Discuss it here!New strain of ransomware (which is a disaster)? Discuss it here!Going for a new cyber security certification? Discuss it here! Our aim is to provide a discussion ground for everything going on in the cyber security space, since things are always changing and evolving. Please keep the discussion respectful, and agnostic. While we are on a Veeam property, we’re building a community for all cyber security professionals who work with all industries and technologies.
Let’s face it, we live in a world where security vulnerabilities and threats are top of mind. There’s some new exploits in the news daily...and often software patches are required to protect our assets.I’ve talked to many out there and the consensus is similar: patches are a must but, the need to be tested first, and testing is terrible. So I ask you all - what makes patch testing so terrible?
If you haven’t heard, Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator v4 (formerly known as Veeam Availability Orchestrator) is now available, and better than ever. Now VDRO can orchestrate recovery for 4 types of your protected data:Veeam CDP Replicas - NEW in v4 Veeam Replicas Veeam Backups Replicated Storage Snapshots (NetApp ONTAP and Lenovo ThinkSystem DM)This means you have the ultimate in flexibility and choice when it comes to protecting all of the data in your environment. From mission critical apps, to those dev environments that would be nice to recover easily but are usually ignored for DR planning purposes, you can do it all with the same tool, the same way.It couldn’t be simpler to create a DR plan in Orchestrator. Check out this video where I create a CDP Replica orchestration plan, run a readiness check, and launch a failover in less than 10 minutes. There are some subtle differences between plan types, but yes, Orchestrator is really that easy to use. You can even get granular an
Did you know you can easily schedule your disaster recovery tests to run with Veeam Availability Orchestrator?Orchestrator’s Lab Calendar makes it simple to run a DR test on a scheduled basis whenever you want - like on #DRTestTuesday. The best part of course, is being able to provide a copy of a production environment to your application owners when after the test has run.Just think of what you can do with a copy of your data - test patches and application upgrades, train new staff members, and do all of the testing you would never want to do in a live environment.Be sure to check out how easy it is to do right in the Orchestrator documentation. If you’re looking for the ultimate deep dive on everything testing (including running a DR test on demand and scheduling one in the Lab Calendar) in Orchestrator, don’t miss this great webinar which is nearly 100% demo (no boring PowerPoints from me!) and tackles Orchestrator’s amazing dynamic documentation as well. As part of every DR test you
Did you know you’re 30 minutes away from Orchestrated DR at any given moment?Veeam Availability Orchestrator takes just 20 minutes to configure, and it takes less than 10 minutes to create an Orchestration Plan, what we call your your fully documented and automated DR plan.Don’t believe me? I have proof! Those videos cover everything you need to get started after you have installed VAO, and run through the initial configuration wizard, which couldn’t be simpler. Here’s a few more tips I’ve discovered along the way and am sharing:Install the VAO agent on all of your Veeam Backup & Replication servers. Once you install the agent, VAO understands the jobs you already have configured, and can orchestrate their recovery. Simple! If you use NetApp storage, be sure to have your SnapMirrors configured ahead of time if they aren’t already. Once you add your storage systems, you guessed it, VAO understands the relationships you have and can orchestrate their recovery! vSphere Tags make t
