This is the description of an unusual scenario where Backup Job Files (.vbk and .vib Files) are backed up with a File-to-Tape Job instead a Backup-to-Tape Job. This has several disadvantages, e.g., you must know on which tape your files you want to restore are residing. You cannot find your tape backups under the backups section in the “Home” view of console and many more…OK, now have a look how we get these files back from tape.See the results of the File-to-Tape job and find the tape number the files reside on. If you don’t know the tape, read further, and use the search function ( Note: the warning in the screenshot can be ignored. The filesystem is too big for VSS Snapshots, I have forgotten to switch the VSS snapshots off for this test backup job.).Then go in the Veeam Console to the “Tape Infrastructure” section. Either go to the media pool where the affected tape is in or look for it in the Media section of your tape library.Right click on the tape and select “Restore Content”.
We had some problems with restoring VMs in the last time.After some research we found that the Proxy on Linux has a problem with the assignments of physical volumes. It seems that there are PVs of target machines are preserved in the LVM archive files of the proxy… This is causing problems at restore time – leaving the restored VMs unbootable.I have double checked the Veeam documentation about prerequisites (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/backup_proxy_requirements.html?ver=110) and found no hint that LVM is a problem with Linux proxy.The problem occurred with Suse Linux only, we are in the process to check if there is the same problem with RedHat Linux. To visualize the problem, I will show it from the Veeam Proxy perspective and from the target VMs perspective. Hello,I tried to install a new VBR server with the iso of Version 11a P20211211 (VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.1.1261_20211211.iso).This fails at once with a strange error…Tells you everything you have to know… After that I tried the install on the same machine with an iso Version 11a P20211005 (VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.1.1261_20211005.iso) and the Patch to V11a (P20211211 VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.1.1261_20211211.zip) and all is working fine. Did anyone get this error, too? I did not find anything in the forums to this behavior…Unfortunately I did not have much time and had to get this installed, so I did not get all logs for Veeam support. I will try to recreate this situation….

One of my clients (public sector) has high security requirements for his IT environment – including backup and storage.I found the following statement from VEEAM about the used encryption standards and methods in Veeam Backup and Replication:“Veeam Backup & Replication supports the following encryption standards and methods:Data EncryptionTo encrypt data blocks in backup files and files archived to tape, Veeam Backup & Replication uses the 256-bit AES with a 256-bit key length in the CBC-mode. Hello,I have a question to all fellow service providers about Kasten K10 Licensing.At the moment each Kubernetes worker node is licensed with more than 200 points per month, regardless of the size of the worker node and/or the number of pods running on them.How do you sell this product to your customers - especially in the beginning of their containerization journey when they don’t have that much containers/pods on the Kubernetes worker nodes? I have tried to suggest a change to Kasten K10 licensing with two or three sizes of worker nodes - e.g. Small, Medium and Large with different amount of points for licensing. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to ruin prizes for Veeam products, but I have a problem to position Kasten K10 at my customers with the current license model and I would like to hear if I am the only one or if you have the same issue...What do you think?
