One thing I’ve found as a Veeam customer is you often have to restart the VSS services on your SQL and other VSS aware servers. As many of you may have seen from your email Veeam has recently released a VMCE 2021 Fast Track package for any v9, 2020 certificate holders or people who have taken the v10 class but not passed the exam. I’ve written a blog on the subject but TL;DR it’s definitely worth checking out.
Not to be a negative nelly, but don’t we already have github.com/veeamhub as a repository that is purpose built for this type of content, managed by people who know code? Can we not push community script additions there rather than turning them into effectively forum posts?

Hi all! I’ve been following along with Michael Cade’s renewed journey into home labbing on twitter at the same time that I’m doing a bit of the same. I’m currently working through the following2x AceMagic AM06Pro (https://www.amazon.com/Computers-Windows-Display-Desktop-Bluetooth/dp/B0BQHBWPYX) upgraded to 64 GB ram and 3 TB of internal disks each for ESXi hosts 1x AceMagic T8 Plus (https://www.amazon.com/ACEMAGIC-Computer-3-Screen-Bluetooth-Computers/dp/B0CQJQPZJX) as a Proxmox host (hopefully) 1 QNAP TS332x for basic iSCSI and object storage 1 Synology 923+ that I’m hoping to do some Veeam related goodness on. Cloud based object storage from 11:11 Systems as well as some vCD compute for VCC In addition I have some resources in AWS that I’ll leverage to do testing and learning with. What are you all doing for labs in modern times? If you are actively using a lab what are you testing, what’s exciting you?

We all know that Veeam Backup & Replication is great for doing exactly what it says, backing up and replicating virtual machines. What is less talked about is all the other things it enables through those and other capabilities such as Sure Backup, application aware backups and secure restore. What is that thing that you’ve done with VBR that isn’t necessarily a listed feature or use case but is a great time saver?I’ll start with my favorite: Created a process where I launched a full Cisco VoIP HA stack (2x CUCM, 2x Unity, 2x UCCX, 2x something else i can’t remember) into a Veeam Sure Backup lab from the backups, upgrade the entire stack in the lab, shutdown and removed the production from inventory then migrated the lab ones into production, Rebooted the phones. Cut my system downtime for major version upgrades from 24 hours to 10 minutes.

after working through the learning.kasten.io labs I’d like to build my own little cluster inside my lab. Any recommendations on sizing the lab (number of VMs, CPU,RAM, Disk, etc) to get started?
Hey all, going to try to start up with a bare metal, single node kubernetes implementation with kubevirt. From what I can gather minikube is probably the easiest method to get there so plan to use that as my k8s level. One question I have is that of what is the preferred linux distro to sit underneath such things? I tend to skew towards ubuntu but curious if you all see something better out there for this kind of use case.

Hi all, had an internal report of having a challenge with taking a backup chain encrypted with 12.1 and being able to import those backups into a v12 VBR. Has anybody else tried this?I know that 12.1 is considered a non-breaking release and backups definitely work when you take 12.1 to 12.0 VCC servers, but not being able to import could be an issue, albeit one that can be worked around with extract.exe.

Now that we have 2 of the 3 days of VMworld out of the way who’s been following along? What’s new that you see as interesting?Personally the whole project where the management layer of vSphere is containerized I think is both interesting and is going to create some challenges in the near future for those of us thinking about BCDR. That itself lends itself to the idea of the other project where your vSphere management is now done as a Service.From the Veeam perspective I keep thinking about the idea of having physical repositories that I use the project Monterrey smart NICs with to fold them into the NSX overlay to really nail down the connectivity with.
