How to Backup Server from Hetzner via VBR

Hello,I have a problem with configuring the Backup Job.We have one server hosted on Hetzner and I need to backup it just once and restore it.I don’t know what could be the prerequisites for this, do I need to expose our VBR ports to the Hetzner?Currently I manage to create protection group, added Hetzner server without any problems, rescaning is working, but when I try to create a backup job using Veeam agent it fails with the following error message:3/4/2024 14:03:40 :: Failed to send backup job configuration to X Error: Failed to update backup job Managed by agent job name: Agent Backup Policy 3.Invalid job configuration.Connection problems.Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.Failed to establish connection: no valid IP addresses were found.A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond VBR IP Addres:10005

Reorganization of Backup Plan to achieve close to 3-2-1-1-0 rule with our Infrastructure

Hello to all Backup solutions architects 😀, I will need advice in configuration of our Backups so that I can achieve as close as possible to the 3-2-1-1-0 rule.Our Current Backup Infrastructure is as follow:1 x Synology RS3621xs+ in Vienna, Austria.1 x Synology RS3621xs+ in Novi Sad, Serbia.1 x Synology DiskStation DS1019+ in Novi Sad, Serbia.I wanted to implement Wasabi to our Infrastructure but didn’t get the green light, it is not approved. Current Backups are setup in the following:1. All our critical infrastructure is being backed up to the NAS in Vienna with this configuration:I had an topic where we discussed about not needing Synthetic Full Backups periodically and Active Full Backups both enabled for the job. Veeam Backup - Syntethical Backup / Retention Policy

Hello to all,It’s me again with the new topic. 😁I have question about Retention Policy.How the chain is going to be deleted?As I try to figure out it should be when the file is created and from that day it will be available before the retention policy in my case “14” days is over.On the 15th day it will be erased or?This is my current settings: I have active full backups on the first Friday.We are doing full backups on Friday and the rest is incremental.Can someone give me more information on retention policy and also on the Synthetic full backups periodically.Thank’s to all the forum users.Probably the best forum in my opinion.

SureBackup - Help with configuring and testing

Hello everybody and wish you a happy and successful new year. I’m starting with configuration of SureBackup for our environment.I’m still pretty new to everything so it would be great if someone can assist.We have a standalone Hyper-V Host that we are using for our Virtual Lab.Few of you are already familiar with our setup but I will write it again:Backup Jobs going on primary location (Synology NAS iSCSI connection formatted as ReFS to Windows Server) Backup Copy Jobs on secondary location ( Synology NAS iSCSI connection formatted as ReFS to Windows Server) Immutable Backups on secondary location ( Running Directly on Synology NAS as a VHR - isolated ) Now I want to add SureBackup to our Backup Strategy to complete the 3-2-1-1-0 rule. Sure Backup - Best Practices

Hello forum,What are the “Best Practices” for configuring Sure Backup?On which configuration’s I should take care, how often do you recommend to do it etc.I have a dedicated physical server, a Tower server that will be in use for this purpose.12 Core Processor, 128 GB of RAM and around 10TB of free space. Our largest VM is more than 10TB but it will be okay if SureBackup can use instant restore etcPlease advise :)

Backup chain for Backup Copy Job

Hello,How would my Backup copy Job chain look?Backup Jobs are 7 restore points (Incrementals + Synthetic Fulls)Backup Copy Jobs will also have 7 Restore points.As I’m going trough some old discussions I can see that with Forward incrementals and first Full Backup with backup copy jobs everything has stay above 7 restore points.Also one more question, do I need to seed backup copy jobs if I’m going to use WAN Acceleration in High Bandwidth Mode

Backup Job - Best Practices

Hello,Since I’m going trough a lot of Veeam documentation in the past few days I found that I can always improve our Backups in some ways.At the moment we have each VM in separate Backup Job: They are all run in the similar time window: 21:00 and 22:00In some Veeam documentation I read that its better to group them together because of the simplicity and I/O resources used.Can somebody give me mote info about thatDescription:All of these VMs are from 3 different hosts. 1 VM is Linux based 13 VMs are Windows Server based 2016/2019 What are your recommendations on this The largest VMs are:VM Backup FS - 12 TB VM Backup SVFS1002 - 3 TB They are both on the same host

WAN Accelerator

Hello,I’m planning to implement now Backup Copy Jobs over WAN Accelerators.Our Upload/Download speed is around 850Mbps on both locations That should be High Bandwidth mode as I already did some research.Now I would like to have some advices from you guys:We have 7 Backup Jobs with total of 20 VMs all combined I will connect Secondary Storage (Synology RS3621xs+) to a VM directly with Ethernet Cable via iSCSI. It will be formatted as ReFS (64KB)I have following questions:Is one to one WAN Accelerator enough or I should implement 2 Source WAN Acceleratros to 1 Target WAN Accelerator What are you’re best practices for scheduling the Backup Copy Job? I used Immediate Copying in last Backup config As I don’t need Global Cache for High Bandiwidth mode, can someone explain how WAN Accelerators are working with High Bandwidth mode Our Largest VM is 13TB, if that is something that can be helpful with advices.

From Backup Copy Job to Immutable Repo

Hello,I would like an suggestion on how to approach this scenario, I have some options in mind but I want to get some best practice if possible.Current situation is like this:Backup Jobs to our Main Site Backup Copy Jobs to our DR SiteNow I would like to start backups to our VHR.From suggestion in the my previous topics I will create a VM with VBR on Synology with underlying disk that it has. I will isolate it and restrict access that is only needed. Now I have question about Backups.What is the best way to configure this now?My toughs are since I already have backups on the DR Site from Main, I could configure Backup Copy Jobs and select objects from the Repo that is already on DR.How the connection is established then?I would guess that the VBR server will start Veeam Data Movers on the Repo from DR Site and on the VHR and that data will just transfer itself on the same site?VBR is located in another Branch Office via IPSEC so it would not be good if the data goes from DR SITE Repo &

Veeam LHR and iSCSI

Hello,I would need to configure immutable backups for our DR site. We have a Synology NAS which I would connect via iSCSI to the VM that will be LHR.As I’m gone trough some documentation on Veeam for VHR I can see that there is an .ISO and a script for this.Now the question is how would I approach this with adding iSCSi storage to it. I didn’t see a part where I can first do that then continue with VHR.

BCJ Performance

Hello,I would like to check with you guys if this performance is solid.I first created everything with WAN Accelerators that are physical machines with SSD, one for source and one for target side but it caused some problems and its not so convenient for me.Now I configured everything with Direct mode and I would like to see if this is a solid performance or not.Our connection on both locations are 1Gbps, around 750-850 Mbps upload/download speed.So this is from Primary Office to Secondary Office via VPN, 2 different countries.I have 3 BCJ, 1 is for 2 biggest VMs, and others are smaller ones.So the biggest VM is now left, all of the others are done but the Processing Rate is not so much to be honest, no other processes are running in the background.

Hello,I would need some general advices in creating Backup Copy Jobs.Is it okay to choose every Backup Job and insert it in the Backup Copy Job, as I can see there is no option to create in which order they will perform etc.

Retention Policy - Backup Copy Job with GFS

Hello everybody,I would like to know scenario with retention policy in this way. I don’t want to have Forever Forward Incremental backup method because as I saw it’s not recommended by Veeam also, if we do it without GFS.I would like to create Full backups (synthetic) every week.So I’m just a little bit confused how restore points will be available.If I have configured 7 restore points but in GFS I have option to store Full Backups for 2 weeks, how it will end up looking?I’m more curios how increments are going to be removed.

Backup Job - Statistics

Hello, I wanted to be sure that fast clone is enabled but I can’t see it anywhere.As I remember on v11 it was written in the “Action” description.I’m using Synology NAS connected directly via iSCSI to the Windows Server 2022.It’s formatted as ReFS (64KB).You can see that it was a Synthetic Full but FastClone nowhere to be seen.

Backup Cop Job - Timing - WAN Accelerators Sizing

Multiple VMs with same OS

Hello to all,As I configure a testing Job with Multiple VMs with the same OS, I can see that there is no difference in the deduplication rate in Report when I run the VM itself alone or in the Group.One more point to ask:The VMs in the Backup Copy Job are all started at the same time when the job starts.Is this how it should be or they need to be run one at a time?

Veeam Backup Job - Startting time I/0 load

Hello,We had 13 Backup Jobs that were all started in the same time period from 21:00 to 22:00.VBR server had 32 GB of RAM and 10 cores. It was a VM.All Backup Jobs were with single VM inside of it.Was this good approach or it was too much for our VBR Server to handle.We didn’t have any off-host Proxies and VBR Server and 60% of VMs were on the same Hyper-V host.It was acting then as only proxy for those jobs as I can assume.What would be the better approach on this?I’m still trying to grasp Veeam with his technologies as best I can..

Veeam Backup Server Placement

Me again with new topic 😁At the moment our VBR Server is located on the Hyper-V Host where are also the 50% of VMs that we are backing up. Without Using Off-Host proxies I can guess that all load will come to Hyper-V host which is hosting VMs and VBR also.I guess that data movers from source VM and VBR are run on the Hyper-V host itself.What would be the best practice for placement of VBR?Is it good idea then to isolate it from the VMs that we are backing up or?I can host it on some Hyper-V Host which doesn’t have productive VMs or anyAlso then our off-host backup proxy should be physical machine or somewhere where we also dont have anything?

New VBR Server - From V11 to V12 - Transfer of License

Hello Forum,I have question about few things so that I make the change as smooth as possible.The plan is to create everything from scratch because our current configuration is really awful and time for change has come. Current Situation is like this:VBR V11 on Hyper-V VM Subscription: Enterprise Plus Instances: 20 (13 used) Inventory: 1 Hyper-V Cluster 2 Standalone Hosts Now I need to remove everything from this server and to transfer the license to the new one Questions:How to transfer the license? How to properly remove Inventory so that I don’t have problem when adding it to a new V12 VBR server? I know that few folks had problems when attempting to add the hosts to new VBR, something stuck on the old VBR etc. I will not do a configuration backup because I want everything from scratch. Please feel free to write any other recommendations that I need to take care off.I did it one year ago but I would need the help from Veeam Legends to do it the propper way this time 😁

Final Decision - Veeam Backup Infrastructure

iSCSI ReFS Storage with Synthetic Fulls + Backup Copy Job

Hello Veeam Community (probably the best one)One topic came to my mind today when I was going a little bit deeper into FastClone with ReFS.The question is this:On the primary site, Plan is to have VM with ReFS storage connected with iSCSI Initiator to Synology.With that infrastructure we will enable Synthetic Full Backups which will have FastClone enabled.Now, because I’m referencing my Backup Copy Jobs to the main Backup Jobs I want to know how this will work in above scenario.Since FastClone creates Synthetic Full with only references to the previous backups in the chain, what will then I have on my secondary site when that Synthetic Full backup is transferred to the secondary site?Will I have only references to the backups that are located in the Primary site (that is probably something that all of us don't want) since that is what that file is consistent off or it will have references to the already copied Backups on the Secondary site? In case if we lose our Primary Site than our
