All Intel processors from 2015 to 2022 are affected by a vulnerability called “Downfall”. Attackers can grab sensitive information from other users on a computer like password, encryption keys and personal data. Google found this flaw nearly a year ago and reported is to Intel.The flaw is in the processor’s memory optimization and makes unintended internal hardware register accessible by software. This can be used on multi-user computer to get information from other users. On single-user computer malicious applications or apps can use this flaw. Another scenario is to attack cloud-computer that are located on the same physical infrastructure. So, nearly all computer users are affected.Antivirus software cannot detect this kind of attack. Hello,I have updated some of the V12 VBR servers with the patch from Tuesday.The server is running and backups are possible.But I see on all servers a warning for a system process ( Veeam Console → History Tab → System).Are you seeing this warning/error, too? Edit:Seems to be a timing issue with both V11 and V12.The next planned execution of the Catalog Cleanup on day later runs successfully.So, It’s a “cosmetic” issue.
Hello community,I have an issue with a file to tape backup in combination with the usage of VSS.I have to copy the files of the RMAN Backups to tape. The backup files of the RMAN and SAP plugins are not recognized as backup Jobs with the tape jobs, so I have to copy them as files and not as jobs.The RMAN backups are running 24/7 - so there are some open files every time the copy job runs. And therefore I have activated the usage of VSS in the file to tape backup job.Every time the job runs an VSS error is given - "Shadow copy provider vetoed the operation"I did not find useful information to this error.Does anyone have some idea why VSS is not working properly? A reboot did not help. On the drive is enough free space (around 62,5 TB free of 105 TB total).
I see one more change in VBR V11 Beta - the handling of exported backups and of backups with no associated backup job. Exported Backups:Up to V10 exported (disk) backups were put in the section “Disk (imported)”In V11 the exported backups are put in another section - “Disk (VeeamZIP)”. Up to V10 I have seen this section when creating a VeeamZip archive intentionally only. Backups from deleted backup jobs:Backups which were created from deleted backup jobs were put in the section “Disk (Imported)”, too. In V11 there is a new section: “Disk (Orphaned)” I think this describes the status of these backups much better than before.

I had some special situation in the last weeks.A customer had two VBR server with one IBM TS4500 tape library connected to each sever. Now he wanted to consolidate to one VBR server, but he had to keep both libraries with all the data on the tapes.The Veeam helpcenter and the forum describe several tape library moving scenarios, but none with moving a library with data to another VBR server which has already data on it, too. I will call this server which is deinstalled in the process and whose repositories and library will be moved “source server” and the server which gets the repositories and library from the other server “target server” in the following text The target VBR server has data, a configuration backup restore of the source server is not suitable. With this all data on the target server is lost.VBR is at V11 P20210507 at both servers, so this is ok. It is ok to lose the History from one server, this is a huge advantage, too.After some planning we did the following procedure

I am using VEEAM community on my cell phone often, especially in the evenings When I want to write an comment on my cell phone there are few functions avaliable only…On my PC the comment window has a whole bunch more functions.So it would be a huge improvement for me when the available functions were equal on all plattforms… What do you think?

Hello,a customer has the problem that his VBR server has gotten very slow the last days and since today some agent and plugin jobs are failing (and yes, agent and plugin jobs only are failing, no VM backup jobs...).I had a look at the server and it has hit the 10GB constraint of the the MS SQL express edition for the database size…Is there a procedure to shrink the database? For example to delete the session history or something else?The setting for the History under General Options is a option how much entries are shown in the console but not how many entries are saved in the db.Any ideas? 🤔
Hello,a customer of mine wants to use a teradata box for a database application.Up to now I have learned already that there is no direct integration with Veeam and that teradata is a little bit “special”. It brings a own data protection solution with it on board. We don’t want to support and maintain a second backup solution besides Veeam for this customer if it is avoidable….Does someone here have some experiences with data protection of a teradata box?My fist idea was to check if the OS is a linux/unix and if it is possible to install a Veeam agent on it. I assume the internal solution can write the backup data in a filesystem and the agent can send it to the VBR server.But perhaps there are some other solutions I didn’t think of. I had to do a quick backup of a VM today.OK, no problem I thought and hit the Quick backup menue topic for this VM in the inventory tabThe job started and I saw some disk exclusion in the job log.Mhh… I wanted a quick backup of the whole machine.Then I saw that another job than I had expected was started for the quick backup.OK, this job backups indeed on disk of the VM only….Then I recognized that this VM is associated to several backup jobs. One which backups the whole VM, one to backup one VMDK with DB Backups and on job to backup one VMDK with log backups.It’s an older setup with a database without application aware backup. So, it seems that the quick backup executes the backup job which was executed last for the VM before the quick backup is started….And you have no choice to tell the quick backup which job you want to use… Am I missing something here? Is it a bug or a feature???? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to select the job which is used for that?Or am I the only one finding

The report reveals 148 Exabytes1 (EB) of total tape capacity (compressed) shipped in 2021, marking an impressive record year for the LTO Program. Cumulative path 3 of Veeam Service Provider Console (VSPC) V5 was released last week.Anton says in his weekly digest:“[It] addresses a critical issue which may cause a backup encryption password to be reset. If you're managing Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows with VSPC and have backup encryption enabled, then you need to install this patch and re-enter the password. This is required because the original encryption password can be reset by the automatic policy resync task which is started after you upgrade to version 5.To help you with locating agent jobs that need to have their encryption password set again, with the patch installed we show a failed job session for all affected backup agents, so don't be surprised when you see those. I had some – in review stupid – error with an backup of a single private computer with the free version of the Veeam Agent for Windows.I had told the owner of this machine to use the Veeam Agent for backup, because it is free and reliable. That I am using the products of this company professionally and didn’t have much problems with them and that they are very easy to use.So this poor little owner downloaded the agent, installed it and configured a backup job according to the procedure and recommendations I have given to him.The he tried to run the backup and after a short time – BANG Error.He called me and told me that there is a problem. I asked him to send the error message to me and I will have a look at it.19.02.2022 14:29:59 :: Error: Shared memory connection was closed. Failed to upload disk.
