Wow this is great to know.  We have security for our environments but I am also working on domain segregation with a new forest based on best practices for our Veeam.  They will soon have their own domain which will be locked down tight.  Thanks for sharing this one Dipen.

Veeam Linux Agent - Notification Config

You can also check under the Backup section - Disk for the backup they are for to see the properties and if they are used.

VBK files to be kept for restore

If they are part of a backup chain then you will need them and easiest way to test is do a restore.  If not then you can remove them, but ensure you don’t break a chain.

PuTTY vulnerability vuln-p521-bias CVE-2024-31497

If you are worried about security with Putty then you can download the latest EXE file and place it here for Veeam to use the 0.81 release - Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Console\PUTTYI just renamed the EXE located here (backup) and copied over the new one 0.81 which now works when launching from the VBR console.

Issue is fixed. Backup copies are running successfully now. Followed the article, and recreated the share and customized permissions. Thank you all for the support.     Great to hear you were able to fix the issue with the KB shared.  👍🏼

QUESTION April 18th From MP

Well here is my stab at it to see.  Cannot wait for other comments and the answer.  😎What happens when you test this?The physical servers managed by the VBR server will run and send direct to Object storage via the Agent (physical servers require the agent as well), but the Agents you need to ensure the repository access control permissions are set for them to use the Object storage repository.  Proxies and Agents need direct network access to the object storage when using direct mode.  So, in this case, if the C-Suite laptops use a Gateway for indirect access to Object Storage, backups will fail.  The better way would be to have the Agents, when roaming, connect directly to the Cloud storage, but that is not allowed in this case.And what is used as the gateway?The VBR server or Proxies would be used as the GW to connect to Object Storage repositories.

Yeah, I looked there. There are 7 log files there. I checked the latest one for the task and seems like the error started right after the “ Making catalog manager notification” and the error is:   “ Unable to import uploaded publications. (System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[System.ServiceModel.ExceptionDetail])”       Ok if there is nothing obvious in the logs to help then I suggest you move to a Support ticket at this point.  The community is not technical support so we can only help as best we can.  Once you have a support ticket you can also post in the Forums as well for further assistance - https://forums.veeam.comLet us know what happens.

We are using the Veeam 12.1.1.56. There are multiple files inside the  C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\”Backup Job Name”. Which one should I check?   Thanks. The folder with your job name. 😉

What version of Veeam are you using?  Also if you check the logs they should give you a better indication of what the copy job is doing - C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\

Veeam v12.1 Issues?

Hello…. If I understand the problem correctly, you are getting an error on the proxy machine, right? If so, have you first checked the credential information of the Proxy machine and the User you are using? Additionally, I think you upgraded the proxy server. Apart from that, did you create a new proxy server and take action? Finally, can you access vCenter via the proxy machine? If you cannot access it, you may receive this error. Thank you. I get this error on the VBR console when I try to “rescan” the proxy machine. Yes I all checked account & privileges.  I have no error on backups, and all works fine during backups. The error is only when I rescan the proxy (or this proxy machine in “managed servers”). I upgraded my proxies after my VBR, I didn’t create a new one : it was an existing proxy.  I added an other “managed server” in backup infrastructure and it didn’t give me this error.   Yes I can accès the vcenter. As noted on that site -You can click Refresh to update the list of backup repositories. This may be helpful, for example, after you configure access to a backup repository and want to select this repository without the need to re-run the Configure Plug-in wizard.

I see you already posted on the forums so I would suggest a support ticket also for the issue to get the logs analyzed.  It is very clear it is the kernel but unsure what the fix would be.

Backup job to SMB fails on Kernel version 5.15.0-102

Yes, I meet ALL the requirements. It is not a compatibility issue. I literally said from the start what’s the problem: kernel version 5.15.0-102 It works fine when I downgrade to version 5.15.0-101 I have Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS I want to know if there is any fix without having to downgrade Then that is your fix or as mentioned by Michael go up for kernel.
