More than one backup was found for the same job

This ticket still open with support. No resolution yet. Tried to create a backup job and added VMs as the backup object instead of the volume. Still go the same error. Sent a copy of the DB to support (2nd time). Hopefully, they determine the issue and resolution soon.

vCenter shows disk consolidation requested by Veeam but also displays percentage of completion. What's a good plan to be able to restart the Windows DB VM?

As suggested, we just let the consolidation finished. It ran more than 50 hours, no snapshot present. I think there were so many changes being done on the server. No issue seen from the backup side. After the reboot, all the backups have run successfully and near baseline duration.Thanks for your inputs.

vCenter shows disk consolidation requested by Veeam but also displays percentage of completion. What's a good plan to be able to restart the Windows DB VM?

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, the DB is pretty large, close to 15TB and I’m sure storage vmotion would take hours and we would have to do it twice to bring it back to its home volume.I was told that the DB has been restarted to no avail. Resource utilization is normal compared to several weeks before. So we’ll see if we can determine what is going on with the server before we do anything drastic.

My ticket has been opened with support for about a week now and I haven’t gotten a convincing solution or at least cause of the issue. I have sent my backup config db, hopefully they see a persistent object ID or something causing the issue.

Oops sorry about that. Below is the screenshot of the volumes being backed up. I will let you know what Veeam support would find out about this issue.

I already deleted the job that had an issue. Below is a screenshot of the working job. This is identical to the job having an issue except on the VBR this is one is running in.  I will open a ticket with support. Thanks.

@Andanet, I’m sure that this is the only job that backups the VMs in our production VBR. The same job is in our staging VBR but this has been disabled (their schedules are also a couple of hours apart).

I already did recreate the job and gave me the same error. The 2nd time it showed the same error, I disabled the job. However, it continued to send out SQL notification error which means that this job was still running in the background. The only way to stop the notification is to delete the job. We are able to process tlogs successfully on our staging VBR server before we moved the job to our production VBR server.

I very much agree with @dloseke. If I need to open a SEV4 or a SEV3 ticket, I would post here first then open a ticket with support if it the issue doesn’t get resolved here in a day or two.

I really like posting here since people suggests different things that triggers ideas in solving issues. @Andanet, thanks! I looked into Svc.VeeamBES.log and found the following error:Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer (System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception)Had a chat with one of our AD folks. They were moving servers around different OUs within an OU. Short answer, they realized the problem and fixed the issue. Thanks again folks! :-)

Yes, AD user is correctly enabled and there is no issue with the port. I can login as part of the same group the user belongs to. I will check the VeamBES log to see if I can get more info as to what is going on. Appreciate the suggestions.

Yes, I think I will have to open a support case. We haven’t changed anything on the server. We are at 12.0.0.142 and we have not updated to 12.1. In my case, bringing an issue in the community has faster results for me because of different suggestions. Thanks again. Will let you know how this got resolved.

The VEM is installed in a separate server. His account used to work and stopped working last week. The group that he’s in has a Restore Operator role and has been like that. Thanks for the suggestion.

We are using the domain format, and the format seen in the log is the correct one. Same as to what I’m using to be able to login. Thanks and will continue to look into the issue and update.

Backup job doing NBD instead of SAN Direct

I should have looked if there were any stale snapshots. The VM that is being backed up using NBD had a stale Veeam snapshot causing it to be backed up using NBD. The stale snapshot got created around the same time the VMs were moved to the Large File volume.Thanks for all your suggestions!

Backup job doing NBD instead of SAN Direct

Yes, both of them are actually using the same proxies and these proxies have direct access to the volume. I will attach a screenshot once able.I haven’t looked at the logs yet, just really curious about the behavior where the only change was the volume. Will let you know if I find something conclusive in the log.Thanks again for your feedback!

How to retain VMs brought up using VDRO longer than 7 days

I brought up the Orchestrator with most of the Veeam services except the VAOBackupAgent and VeeamBackupSvc both disabled. However, the Orchestrator still went ahead and made the objects in vSphere inaccessible. So, the Orchestrator communicates directly with vCenter and it will delete objects it created through its Orchestration Plan once the test period ends. I opened a ticket to Veeam Support and ask them this question. They also suggested disabling these Veeam services. In short, Veeam’s suggestion did not work or at least they could have stated definitively, the Orchestrator will delete those objects.

How to retain VMs brought up using VDRO longer than 7 days

We are still able to create a backup on our primary site. We brought up the VMs (VDROLAB servers) in our DR site. The storage replication is the one not working but there is no other production VM in the volume so we are good.Let me ask another question, if I run an Orchestration Plan using a Datalab test for 1 hour, then before the hour expires, disabled Veeam services or power down my VDRO and after the 1 hour test duration has passed bring up Veeam services or power up VDRO, what would happen to the VDROLAB VMs that were created?

Drop DB on a restored test server from SQL Always On Availability Group in production

We encountered some issues with the Instant DB Restore. Connection to several disks were gone, sample error: C:\VeeamFLR\SERVER_c45cfdab\Volume4\UserDB\DBName.mdf.  The system cannot find the file specified.   Had to restart the mount service to be able to continue the Instant DB Restore. Then when it’s time to do switchover, we got the error unable to switchover due to illegal character in the path. Veeam unable to determine where the issue was and we got to do a manual switchover on the SQL side. So the Instant Database Restore was left in a hung / unknown / still running state. We decided not to clear this unsuccessful restore job since Veeam was not 100% sure what would happen if we force stop the job. So at this point the priority was to make sure that the DB that was brought up was stable and it was stable till the VBR server was rebooted (due to maintenance patching) and the the hung restore job went back several days prior to the switchover causing several days of data lost. SQL restart when doing Instant DB recovery

This feature is actually 2 processes. One is connecting a read-only version of the DB (updates are written to a cache), the 2nd part is the actual file restore of the DB files.For our case, the read-only version DB went off-line due unable to access Veeam created pointers to the DB files. But the file restore continued. However, when it is time to merge, Veeam threw an error related to the errors that caused the DB to be offline Error    Failed to instant recovery item asdfasdf (Type: Database; Source: server1; Target: server1). Database restore failed: Asynchronous read operation failed.  The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error.   The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur in VolumeId: C:\VeeamFLR\server1_5c8d2abc\Volume9, DeviceName: \Device\HarddiskVolume450.(The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error.) We verified that there is no error on vSphere/storage side.  So now all of the new data that got stored in the Instant

SQL restart when doing Instant DB recovery

This is a new feature in v12 and apparently, Veeam does not have enough information what happens if the DB in Recovery Pending is restarted. I think the FLR running the background would not get affected but not sure what happens to the data in the IR cache or what state will the DB be after the restart.

Drop DB on a restored test server from SQL Always On Availability Group in production

The Instant DB Restore does not seem to be working. It is not updating the statistics for a couple of hours now. Also, it did not create any restore log folder. So pretty sure it is restoring, not doing anything. I opened a ticket to Veeam but a couple of their Engineers advised against stopping the process. Thinking of just doing a Instant VM recovery ( approx 50TB server). The backup is a Storage Snapshot so this should be a lot faster using a native Veeam backup. Also, at least the DBA can sign it and check, reconfigure while restore is being done in the background.

I’m doing Instant Recovery so those options are not available. I’m retrying right now but if it fails again, I will go use the other option of Restore Database. Thanks.
