Veeam MOVE to capacity TIER

Hi TeamSorry to bother you guys  and thanks for all the inputs so far.So i had a chance to take a remote of our customer site and what we observed is the 1st FULL Backup have moved to capacity tier which means a tiering session has occurred leaving a VBK file of few MBs on the disk. Actual latest Full backup( 25GB) which was created on 31st Aug is still on performance tier.When i try to perform a restoration for the job i can see the 1st restore point placed on capacity tier and only a since VBK is residing on the performance tier.So currently just to provide a background of the same .We have configured a FULL backup job to run on the last day of the month with 12 restore points as the retention period. Backups are configured to a scale-out repository with the option to move to capacity tier 5 days after the job completes override if disk utilization is beyond 70%.Based on my understanding the GFS configuration will move backups down to the archive tier and will not stay on the perform

@MicoolPaul  -Hi Mike , the synthetic full was initially selected but customer has requested for an active full maybe from a compliance standpoint for data integrity.Retention policy on backup job is 12 restore points not days .So we had done the configuration this way inorder to have separate jobs for monthly fulls and a separate job for yrly fulls..Seems odd but that is where we are .If we do select the COPY to mode we will have 2 copies from my understanding on performance and capacity which we dont want.We just need the offload.At the moment we have 2 full backups..So our team has taken screenshots of the configuration.I could share the same i you can provide your email ID pls .

Morning!   To confirm, have you seen the helpcenter documentation? Should answer a lot of questions: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/capacity_tier_move.html?ver=110   Support are correct that only an inactive backup chain will be offloaded (moved) to object storage, hence you had to wait for your second full backup for anything to happen, though I understand you’re saying it still hasn’t happened yet.   Can you share the retention policy and GFS settings of your backup job?   Also, what happens if you attempt to manually move the backups via this process: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/moving_to_capacity_tier.html?ver=110 -- So i have not attached an archive tier to this SOBR . Its just the performance and capacity extent at the moment.Backup job is configured for active fulls and this should lead to no chain getting created since every backup is an independent VBK file.These i am hoping to move to capacity tier which has not occurred so far.NO GFS

They had requested for the same to be stored on cloud for the same considering onpremise storage space    The move policy is not the correct offloading type, if they want to store the same in the cloud. Why not using just copy offload? Only then they have the same backups onpremise and in the cloud. Move policy will remove the restore points from the performance tier. That‘s not the goal of the customer, if I understand your request. To use the move policy with a forward incremental backup chain, the job must create regular fullbackups or the chain cannot be moved. If you never create a full backup (forever forward incremental), then backup files cannot be moved. -- The customer wants to store 12 Monthly FULL backups and Yrly full backups for 10 Yrs .-- He does not have space on the repository therefore is expecting to store the same on cloud .

Hello, Backup copy capabilities are only available if you have specified an extended backup repository as a target for your backup jobs You have to create another backup repositories extended with the Azure Blob Storage Archive as a target for backup copy jobs. The extended backup repository where you keep your backups and the target backup repository must be located on the same backup proxy server and have the same retention type After you just have to follow this : https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo365/guide/vbo_new_copy_job.html?ver=60   Thanks Stabz..👍

Hi GuysOk So i just tested the same ..Workflow as below : Configuration of a Local repostory1 with Azure Bob storage extent - retention period 1Yr Configuration of a local repository 2 with Azure Archival storage extent - retention period 10yrs Created backup job to Local repository repository 1 Create a backup copy job of the same to local repository 2Please let me know if this methodology looks right or if there is something else to be done..Retention policy settings is left to default snapshot based retention considering additional egress costs with item-level retention. ThxKarun

Veeam Backup for M365 - Archival Options

A query on the creation of the archival object storage repository..Once we create the object storage utilizing azure archival blob object storage container do we need to create a second local storage repository and extend the same with the archival object storage just created ?The reason i ask this is because there is no clear details on the same in the guide.Also when creating a backup copy job from existing job the following archival object storage repository does not showup...😐Could someone throw some light on the same ..Both the blob and archival object storage repository have been deployed with the same retention type.

Veeam Backup for M365 - Archival Options

Hi GuysThanks for the replies .Much appreciated. To give you a background of the requirement.Customer has VBO deployed onpremise with a local repository deployed extended with an azure blob storage. There is also an additional archive blob storage configured under the oject storage repositories.Requirement 1 :He needs to have 10yrs of his email data backed . ( Has a similar backup policy on VBR where we have configured backups to happen on last day of the month with a retention policy of 12 restore points)Requirement 2 : Monthly full backups for 1 Yr ( Yearly Backup policy configured for month of December to archival tier using the proxy appliance from blob storage to archive storage on azure with 10 restore points )Since the concept of a full backup does not arise with VBO what would be the best way to proceed with data backup and archival…Based on my understanding there is a limitation with archival of email data as there is no GFS kind of a policy available. Archiving Backup with Microsoft Azure Blob

Thanks for the reply Chris.So we have a customer who needs to maintain a 30 day retention onpremise ,12 Monthly and 10 yearly which will be a GFS backup methodology to be followed.So in terms of cost estimation we would need to factor in both Cool tier , archive tier costs and the cost for the proxy appliance Standard_D2 /Standard_F4 (will run during the archiving period from cool to archive tier for a day or 2 and get deleted considering total data size is 1.5TB. Correct me if im wrong.

HiCould someone who has done this deployment confirm that the container we add for archive tier is a regular Standard V2 Storage account with an additional cool tier .The same is converted to archive using veeam..Please confirm as there is no option to create an archive tier storage container
