Quantum DXi V5000 integration with Veeam - Veeam Data Mover service is not enabled

Hi all, finally I have added Quantum DXiV5000 as deduplicating storage appliance into Veeam (as backup repository). First of all, it was needed to use the user "veeam" when choosing the appliance. Secondly, the default user "veeam" has to have ssh access allowed. In order to do that, I had to change config file (in /etc/ssh/sshd_config – PermitRootLogin yes). Then, it was possible to add Quantum DXiV5000 as deduplicating storage appliance. Thanks to all for your support and help!

Hi @SteveF, thank you so much for useful information! It helped me a lot! I would just ask a little deeper about multi tenancy. I understand, that there is possible to create multiple shares and each of them can be dedicated to a group of users. So, let's say, there is one company and each department has one dedicated share. It means, that the environment is within one network ip space. Nevertheless, it is not possible to have one DXi appliance with shares for more companies, is it?

Free Quantum DXi V5000 Community Edition

Hello,I would like to discuss following questions regarding Quantum DXi V5000: Which version of NFS and CIFS/SMB is supported?Is supported S3 protocol?Is multi-tenant set up possible? However, I was digging through the documentation and other materials I couldn’t find, what I was looking for. Any help will be much appreciated!

Quantum DXi V5000 integration with Veeam - Veeam Data Mover service is not enabled

Now, it seems, that Veeam transport services have been installed. Simply, I have changed rights on the folder /opt. There is only an issue with the certificate, but I think it is nothing relevant for adding deduplication appliance..  However, still I am facing the error message "Specified share is not Veeam Data Mover enabled"

Have you joined Dxi V5000 to the workgroup or domain? Go to page 30  My Document (quantum.com)   creates a CIFS share   Nope, I have created NFS share because it is much easier in LAB environment

Now, I see something even stranger. I have choosen right IP address of the appliance and I am sure VDMS is enabled, but Veeam thinks something different:

Hi @Chris.Childerhose, thank you so much for an useful piece of advice! However, I was googling quite a lot, I didnt realised I have to enable VDMS. Unfortunately, after enabling VDMS I am still strugling with an error - Installing Veeam Data Mover service Error: mkdir: cannot create directory '/opt/veeam/': Permission denied . Indeed, I used the user, that I have created under VDMS settings. Moreover, I have added him to sudoers file. Althoug, for some reason ssh access is failing. On the other hand, I was trying to use other users as well, that were in sudoers file and ssh was possible, but still there is error regarding permissionsWere you facing the same issue when trying to use Quantum as Deduplication storage appliance withing Veeam?

Hi @Chris.Childerhose and @MattM ! Thank you for your answers! Unfortunately, adding Deduplicating storage appliance is possible only with Veeam Enterprise version. To sum up, there are two options how to connect Quantum DXi V5000 and Veeam Backup and recovery - create NFS share in Quantum DXi and use it as Backup Repository in Veeam and the second one is using Deduplicating storage appliance directly in VBR console. In fact, I was not sure how to integrate DXi with Veeam Data Mover.

Free Quantum DXi V5000 Community Edition

Hi @SteveF, the new DXi V5000 looks really interesting.Nowadays, I play around with it and my first impresion is very positive. Nevertheless, I would like to ask you regarding Quantum DXi V5000 integration with Veeam. How does it work? I have created NFS share within Quantum DXi V5000 and then set this share as repository in Veeam. Are there any other types of integration with Veeam?Any response will be much appreciated!
