performance issue veeam 12 vmware/storage snapshot (primera)

I think your partner (as you do the V12 on vmware through vcsp) is supposed to pick this up. But this is slow indeed. Does not sound like a bug… It is just too slow…I suspect the “network” to be a bottleneck… meaning it is doing some loops somewhere where it is not supposed to go.If not, ask your partner that did the setup (as it is done in vcsp) and let them create a ticket to fix it. this should go faster...

I guess the blog has been updated..correct @smarivoet ?! 😊 hi… indeed :-)it gave me some additional grey hair, but I managed to update it indeed. So other ideas are coming, like for instance the blog, perhaps again veeamonday(in the running to veeam-on every monday 1h free SE-time),… but time is little issue at the moment ;).My daily job is still all partner and client focussed. The website is “just another thing” as a side-activity for post-working-hours. John, reducing the amount of restore points will be effective to reduce the consumption. However, therefore your job needs to be able to run.In order to quickly (as drastic measurement) free up space you might try the delete from disk option:https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/delete_backup_from_disk.html?ver=110

Hi JohnN,having those fulls kills the consumption of space on that NAS. however… it isn’t “bad practice” to have multiple fulls. The potential alternative is to increase your retention but make it an incremental forever.Keep in mind you’ll still need some free space to drop back that tape-backup in case you need it! In the current retentionpolicy you obligate Veeam to have at least 5restore points:F i i i i ----- but in fact it needs more in order to clean up that old full and those increments one day:F i i i i i F i i i i now this new chain of backups (F +4increments) is your 5minimum and Veeam will clean up the old chain (one week: F and 6increments).With a forever incremental setting you will inject the oldest increment into the existing full.F i(1) i(2) i(3) i(4) will result into: F(including i(1)) i(2) i(3) i(4) i(5) the reason why you have 3fulls is unclear for me with the oldest backup from april (assuming your dateformat is 4/7 as april 7th as it isn’t july 4th yet).

Belgium session june2022

@smarivoet is there also recording of the unplugged session. Ghent was the closest one to drive (1h). Mechelen is a 1.5hour drive for meetup of less than 2hours. Keep in mind it was not for partners ;-) you mainly have the PA’s for that. We explicitly took “other” locations to find out the belgian hotspots :-).So instead of having the usual like Antwerp-BXL-Bruges, we took Mechelen, Gent, Hasselt.Personally I think one is missing at Oostende/Ieper…

The Ghent session is together with a webinar of Veeam Cloud & Service Providers (VCSPs) for a sneak preview of V12’s features and capabilities. that is perfectly ok as the unplugged are for end-users ;)

interesting case… because I recall file to tape being litterally any file to a tape… without logic or intelligence. I’ll ping one of my peers for beta2 try-out.

Veeam will know that this are backup files with Agent or VM content, which already used a license. I don’t have the tape-capacity in my homelab to test it, but I hope that isn’t true…I’ve seen a lot… so it would not surprise me to see inventive people with zip-archives that are going to be renamed and tracked in excel files 🙄

You’re perfectly right… that file to tape should be avoided in this case. But for another (future) reason. I don’t think VBR is aware that the source was backed up in the past as you choose to pick a file (accidentally a backupfile) to place it on a tape…in V12 this shall be licensed as nas-backup so with vul. but it has an advantage… it will be a LOT faster ;)

Welcome and Introductions

quick intro from my part as most have met me in the past allready. I’m Stijn. System Engineer at Veeam. I interact with partners and clients and try to assist where possible/needed when new projects appear.I try to maintain a as-good-as-possible relationship. preferable chitchat and tech only, by default no licensing for me .For your convenience I’ve made a website that can be used for demo purposes www.veeamclick.be or to be used if you don’t have access on a homelab. In the near future I’ll try to do my best to get some funding from both marketing and management to do something with the VUG(see other idea-box-post→ your input is required).

Good initiative! Success ! What does the title “Veeam Legend” cover ? Hi, and welcome…well… there is a legends program on the community. So it is up to you to make it challenging for Nico to earn the title next year as well :-).More info here: in very short: be a fan, blog, announce, assist,… and while doing all of that you will earn points. When you are at the top at the end of the year then your earn the yearly title and receive special Veeam Swag, insights on roadmap, special sessions if I’m not mistaking and access to a dedicated part of the forum.Even me as a employee of Veeam I have no clue what is going on there.
