Hi @VEEAM_Legend, This first part does not directly address your question but might be an option to consider the Object First appliance since it handles all these issues under the hood without requiring advanced expertise to manage the box.The warning message due to Time Shift is also addressed here: https://www.veeam.com/kb4424. You have some good links shared above to have this issue resolved.

Migrate VBR from v11 to v12 to a new machine with Azure blob storage repositories

Yes, sorry the Migration option since you will be using a new server with v12, and the name will be different. If you do an in-place upgrade, then that solves things more easily as everything will remain as is and should just work after the upgrade with no issues including jobs and repositories. Hi @HeinerHardt, just in case you wish to perform an in-place upgrade for your Windows Server, I would recommend that you also upgrade your Microsoft SQL as well. You will find this article very useful on how to and why you should upgrade.

Notes are interesting: If you choose to install this 11a update, you will not be able to upgrade to version 12.1 until the next minor update is available (12.1.2 scheduled to be released in Q2 2024). Spot on! It’s even a courtesy update to customers who wish to continue using Veeam Backup & Replication 11a for an extended time.

Temporary migrate Veeam B&R to a new server

Hi @CzkLTPR - This could get a little tricky because of the Host rebuild. Reason is when you get your Host built and place VMs back on the Host (however you decide to do so), Veeam will see the VMs as ‘new’ because they will have received new MoRef IDs. After your Host is rebuilt, you’ll need to rescan it in VBR. I did something a little similar within vSphere several mos ago, and had a hard time getting my jobs to run correctly...they’d error out. I essentially had to recreate my jobs because VBR wouldn’t recognize my Hosts, even though I used the same hostname & IP. Support wasn’t able to assist either, aside from recommending to rebuild my jobs 🤷🏻‍♂️ If your Host is seen ok, you should be able to do the following: I assume each VBR server not only backs up VMs on the side it’s on, but does Replication of VMs on the opposite side Host? At least, that’s how it should be set up. After your Host is rebuilt, for your Replication jobs, you can simply do ‘mapping’ to map the VMs to

Restricting Permissions on Repository Folder for more security

As per the User Guide, you need to give Read/Write permissions (See SMB Share section). But, not sure doing so poses any benefit. Anyone who gains access to the VBR server could potentially wipe the files anyway, regardless if you give explicit permissions or not. Hi @miriam1989 ,Just to add to this, It seems that your Repository is on the same VBR server, you will not be meeting the best practice and an error will be displayed on the “Security and Compliance” wizard.Veeam recommends placing the repository server(s) in a restricted area, because they contain 100% copy of your prod env and MUST be physically secured and have appropriate access control systems in place which you desire!

Absolutely, powerbank is the another option. Public WiFi is risky too. In Windows, you will have to set the network profile type to Public to prevent device discovery on the network and therefore not susceptible to compromise.

Adding hyper v host fails with "invalid credentials" or "spedified host is not a hyper v server"

This info has been super helpful! I have a similar issue, however, I am running Server 2022 and KB5005102 is not an available update for that OS. I’ve tried changing the DCOM hardening settings, modifying UAC, ensuring local Administrator accounts are used. Nothing has worked.    Hello @Jmaeser82  Has this issue been fixed? KB5005102 is for Windows Server 2016 KB 5034127 is for Windows Server 2019, might even work for 2022 So there may be an updated KB verion for Windows Server 2022  I know you have tried those steps you listed. Have you tried windows update on that server? Maybe a Windows update can fix the DCOM hardening setttings and fix the issue, just maybe.    Yes, this is because the patch will continue to be included in the cumulative updates!

Hi @akd79 , as @MicoolPaul already mentioned, perhaps a DNS-issue. Try to use always at first FQDN, verify if a A-record and PTR-records exists in DNS with the correct ip-address. If that is not working, try with IP-Address. Doublecheck if nothing wrong is configured in the hosts file of the VBR server. Success I did notice that to resolve these issues, both servers must be 100% patched and upto date, dont try any other changes, until both physical servers that have the Hyper V Role installed, have been patched and are upto date with the same patches applied, Reboot both severs twice - bingo, should all be working. +1

If you are still experiencing the same issue, I suggest checking the HyperV event log. Although this issue can be tricky to resolve, taking a look at the event log will help you save time. Additionally, I found three similar issues related to this problem not been resolved so far. Did you check the credentials you are using and permissions?  That is what the error indicates. I changed my account and password, but even if I use the administrator, it won't work Since this is not expressly an “Access is Denied” issue, and to rule out the credential concerns. Could you please test using the following command “runas /u:enteryourdomain\yourdomainaccount notepad.exe. If it works, kindly check the associated permissions. There are numerous ways you can test this tho.
