There product looks solid, and easy to use. It will require a large amount of network ports, and it’s still spinning disk. The “landing zone” isn’t deduped or compressed so it will be faster to retrieve than the archive tier which is. Faster is still only as fast as the spinning disks can handle. If you want to bring up an entire environment from backups, an all flash array will be your best bet.

I still prefer on prem due to the unknowns that sometimes happen with cloud. Things designed for the cloud work great in cloud, however, I’ve seen too many companies lift and shift their entire infrastructure and are shocked.

C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\Malware_Detection_Logs Hey Scott, based off the Malware event he posted, his event is for Inline Entropy scans. When that is used, there is no Malware_Detection_Logs folder and subsequent log file. That is only used for File System Analysis scans. Oh I misread that. Thanks
Create a shortcut on your desktop as a huge time saver as many of the files I had were not malware and continue to show up. Use the size of the log files to compare. They shouldn’t grow or change by a huge amount. You could script something to check vs the previous days and email yourself the changes, but hopefully in the next few versions of Veeam some of this gets fine tuned a bit. I have many false positives, but I did actually find some ransomware files using this feature from about 8 years ago which was interesting.

Almost all jobs will start after a few minutes as CoolSport said. I use BFSS for all my jobs however. It removes the stun if you have large VM’s. I have very large servers and databases that are sensitive to VM stun. It has VMware take a snapshot, the SAN will take a snapshot, then the VM snapshot is removed immediately. Veeam continues to get the data from the storage snapshot not effecting production. You can also do storage snapshot only jobs, or tell Veeam to leave the storage snapshots behind for a set amount of time after completion. These can be set to immutable at SAN level as well. I have storage snapshots on almost all my SAN volumes with Veeam allowing for very frequent rolling restore points, with backups going to other storage. If you have a second SAN at an additional location, you can run a storage snapshot job to a global mirror or secondary site as well using a secondary job which is incredible. It depends on multiple things.Your budget, the amount of storage you have, and your current infrastructure. AirGap has transformed in the last few years to “Immutable”. There are storage companies like object first, ExaGrid, that will give you immutable backups that can not be deleted or modified. Companies like Wasabi and BackBlaze do this in the cloud. You can also install a Linux repo on a host, and use almost any object storage to do the same efffect. These companies just make it super simple with the VeeaMover integrated. Plus they usually scale nicely and provide redundancy etc. StoneFly has an “Air-gapped Node” that will Disconnect itself from power and network automatically. A few things matter when picking a CPU and laptop.What is the workload. For email and browsing, you don’t need an I7. For gaming, sometimes an I5 with a higher clock speed is good if you don’t need the cores. It then depends on the specific game you are playing. For video/photo editing and multi tasking, more cores is important. This is where the I7 and I9 really thrive. Newer versions of OS’s and Software are better at using more cores. Compatibility. I like to go with current or previous years model when I can to get longevity out of my computers. Buying new is a rare concern, unless you are running VERY old software. Older CPUs may not want to install Windows 11 however. If you are planning to upgrade the CPU in your current laptop and therefore asking about hardware compatibility, you will need to know the current CPU model, or the socket type. Budget. This is important. Don’t go broke buying something that will be outdated in a few years. (again, as I type on an over powered PC
